Marc Rebillet Announces America’s First Drive-In Concert Tour
As the postponements and cancellations in the music and entertainment industry continue due to the coronavirus pandemic, artists are creating new ways to share their craft.
One of them is famed electronic musician Marc Rebillet who announced via Twitter that he’ll be launching a first-ever drive-in concert tour.
This national tour will be making stops in drive-in theaters that will serve as venues while also keeping crowds at a safe distance. It includes five US cities, starting on June 11 in Charlotte, continuing through Kansas City, Tulsa and Forth Worth before ending in Houston on July 3. If it all goes according to the plan, potentially more dates will be added.
“We need a musical distraction now more than ever,” Rebillet says in the announcement. “I’m deeply pumped to be able to invite people to see me play live in a new, creative and most importantly, safe way.”
A portion of proceeds will go to GlobalGiving Coronavirus Relief Fund.
In the announcement video, Rebillet said that the concerts would stick to strict guidelines.
“Social distancing observed, my team and I have been working super, super hard to put this together quickly and assure it happens safely and responsibly,” he said. “We just would not be able to do this if we didn’t adhere to a pretty strict and rigorous list of rules.”
Rebillet also said he will be moving all around the venue and concertgoers will be able to see him through their windshields.
“It’ll be me, out there, doing a show,” he said. “Since everyone is going to be forced to be in their cars, I’ll be able to do a lot of running around, ‘interacting’ with the audience, just by doing my thing.”
