Metallica Preparing New Album While Touring
The legendary American heavy metal band Metallica is working hard, not only on their upcoming tour but on preparations for their next studio album, a follow up to Hardwired…to Self-Destruct.
Not only did Hardwired…to Self-Destruct receive highly favourable notice, but it was also their first studio album in eight years after Death Magnetic (2008), marking the longest gap between two studio albums in the band’s careers.
Metallica’s Kirk Hammett comments this gap by saying: “When I was 13 or 14 years old, bands put out albums every year. Seriously, Kiss put out an album every eight months – none of this eight years between albums.”
All band members agree that it has been too long, and they hope that they will avoid that this time. They hope since it has been two years already since their last album, they will go into the studio a bit sooner. Hammett adds: “I have a ton of material. I’ve over-compensated, so I’m ready to go anytime.”
Bassist Robert Trujillo reported last month that they had been working hard on new ideas while they are on the road.
We can only hope that the history will not repeat itself since Kirk Hammett lost his phone in 2015 and with it 250 ideas for Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. Although he still hopes it will turn up, he moved forward keeping in mind that perhaps it was not meant to be.
But no need to reminiscent about the past, since in the future we can all look forward to their new album. And in the meantime, fans from all across Europe can enjoy their well-known hits.
Their European stadium tour starts in Lisbon on May 1 and you can purchase your tickets right here.
