NHL Playoffs
The National Hockey League (NHL) remains as the main provider of the spot Hockey in the United States and Canada and has been established for almost 100 years. The league revolves around the sport of Ice Hockey which takes place seasonally and provides the highest quality of Ice Hockey skill and ability to the Wes, with the current champions being the Boston Bruins. The sport contains 30 teams and whilst it has a number of participants every year, the most successful is the Montreal Canadiens who have achieved a record 25 titles since the inauguration of the league.
The game of hockey was not created but often considered that its origins date back to the refinement of years of recreational activity until Hockey began to take shape. The earliest claims of hockey are said to originate from the town of Windsor in Nova Scotia, though no one knows for sure. Professional hockey however did not arise until the late 1800’s where the establishment of professional hockey leagues began to take form. In 1917, 4 recognised National Hockey Association teams decided to reorganise and therefore established the National Hockey League, where new teams were added and this started the base for the current league set up that we have today. Over the years many new teams were introduced as well as a number of them achieving many feats with each progressive season.
There are many well-known teams in NHL who have all staked their claim on the title race each year as well as becoming at some point a more than just a team but a rather memorable name. As with many of the sports leagues in the United States, they are divided by conferences, with the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Each conference does have their own pick of the crop, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning to name a few.
The NHL playoffs may seem strange to some but to others, particularly fans of the series it means another chance at glory. At the end of each season, the playoffs commence, pitting the top few team of each conference against each other to determine who will be crowned the winning champion of the league between the two conferences. In comparison to other sports, winning the NHL playoffs (also known as the Stanley Cup Playoffs) is similar to winning the Super Bowl in the National Football League.
Currently the teams in contention include the likes of the New York Rangers, The Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes to name few. To progress the teams have to battle it out in 7 rounds to determine who goes through to the next stage, with an ultimate final to crown the Stanley Cup Champion. The current champion of this behemoth trophy is Boston Bruins.
