21st June 2012 | Category: Sports

A thrill always runs through our bodies every time we get to watch sports events. Contact sports usually evoke this kind of adrenalin rush within us. Seeing our favorite team or player take the offense and make their move towards beat their opponents, always builds up excitement in us that makes us want to shout on top of our lungs to cheer them on.

There must be something about contact sports that makes the game thrilling. To a fan of Mixed Martial Arts, it is more than just the thrill. Boxing and entertainment wrestling are nothing compared to MMA. Mixed Martial Arts involve the use of different forms and disciplines of martial arts to beat an opponent. Compared to boxing and regular wrestling, it involves striking your opponents and grappling. Technically, boxing and wrestling are just two styles being used in the sport. It also involves Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, judo and many others.

From Brazil, the sport was brought to the United States in 1993 and a promoting company had started organizing fights and encouraging those who have trained for MMA to compete. Soon enough, the Ultimate Fighting Championship – UFC became the largest MMA promotion company in the world. They host events worldwide and feature top ranking fighters go against each other to win a coveted title in eight different weight divisions: flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.

All players have to weigh within the limits of the division that they will be joining to be able to compete. It’s pretty much like boxing only it involves the use of all the limbs. There are certain disciplines and techniques that players also follow, which will create their own fighting style.

Back in the early 90s, the UFC laid out a greater variety than boxing and wrestling and this drew the people towards MMA. But it was not until around 2000 that the MMA really got the patronage that it has now. Their market has expanded to countries outside the U.S. and got themselves a more mainstream coverage on TV and on the internet. To date, the UFC is one of the most watched sports all over the world.

Pounding action happens in the flesh when you watch the Ultimate Fighting Championship live. The excitement triples as you watch your favorite contenders throw punches and kicks towards the opponent and hitting them to earn points. Imagine how it would be like to watch Jon Jones or Anderson Silva wrestle their opponents to win be the UFC champion in their division.

When you’re among the audience, you hear the cheers and you see the expressions on people’s faces while watching the fight; one that you can never see or experience when you’re watching TV. Being at the ringside during a fight will probably be worth more to you than how much you have paid for your ticket to watch the UFC event. NBA Playoffs 2012

30th May 2012 | Category: Sports

The National Basketball Association Playoffs or NBA playoffs is the much awaited event of basketball freaks. It is a best of seven elimination tournament among sixteen teams. These teams come from the Eastern and Western conference and the playoffs ultimately decides the final four teams who will play in the NBA Conference Finals.
This year’s playoffs began on April 28. The teams are the same as the ones featured in 2011 with the exception of the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz while all eight from the east are the same as last year.
As was the case last season, both the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs finished atop their respective conferences, with the Bulls again clinching the top overall seed on the final day of the regular season. The Indiana Pacers opened the playoffs at home for the first time since 2004, while the Memphis Grizzlies earned home-court advantage for the first time in franchise history. For the fourth time since 2006, a division winner (in this case the Atlantic Division champion Boston Celtics) opened the playoffs on the road.
The team that has the best record in each of the three divisions in each conference is declared division champion. The three champions, and another team in the conference with the best record, are seeded one through four by their records. This guarantees that the division champions will be no lower than fourth seed, and also ensures that a conference’s two best teams (by record) are ranked as the top two.
As of now, the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder have achieved great success in different ways compared to big-market teams. The four-time NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs (1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007) is going to face the Thunders who are determined to bring the Larry O’Brien Trophy to Oklahoma City.
The San Antonio Spurs picked up an impressive 120-111 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the 2012 Western Conference Finals. The Thunder gave the Spurs a tough time during the final quarter, eliminating a double-digit deficit, but Tony Parker’s 34 points were too much to overcome. The Spurs take a 20-game winning streak to Oklahoma City on Thursday for Game 3.
Will the Spurs take home the coveted trophy once more? If the thunder can defend the three-point line and protect the ball, they’ll have a much greater chance to make it to the 2012 NBA Finals but if they can’t the Spurs will be in along with other giant teams.

WWE Tickets 2012

16th May 2012 | Category: Sports

The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is the show every muscular or skinny man in the world knows except probably those who live in mountains without access to TV. How could it not attract men of all ages? Not that men love violence; but WWE is pure entertainment. It is the place where big men meet and bash each other inside the ring using their brute strength. The last man standing wins. I guess it’s a natural instinct of man to fight until the end until one man survives or behold the fight and cheer. The WWE is the only place where there are men cheerleaders except they aren’t wearing skimpy outfits and they are swearing a whole lot. Wives know where they could fight their missing husbands; either in the ring if they have the money for tickets or in a friend’s house with other husbands drinking beer and hooting for the fight on TV.

WWE is currently the largest professional wrestling promotion in the world, reaching 13 million viewers in the U.S. and broadcasting its shows in 30 languages to more than 145 countries. It promotes under two brands, known as Rawand SmackDown.

Raw is generally seen as the company’s flagship program due to its prolific history, high ratings, weekly live format, and emphasis on pay-per-views. It is the longest-running weekly episodic TV show in history. Since its first episode, WWE Raw has been broadcast live from 197 different arenas in 165 cities and towns in nine different nations. Including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan in 2005, Iraq in 2006. As of November 16, 2009, the theme song for the Raw brand is “Burn It to the Ground” by Nickelback. Prior to this, the theme song for Raw was “…To Be Loved” by Papa Roach, which had been used since October 9, 2006 and “Across The Nation” by The Union Underground which was used from April 1, 2002 to October 2, 2006. Some of the favourite wrestlers of the Raw brand are CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Santino Marella John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and many more.

From its launch in 1999, SmackDown broadcast on Thursday nights, but on September 9, 2005, the show moved to Friday nights. The show originally debuted in the United States. As of October 2010 SmackDown opens with “Know Your Enemy” by Green Day while “Hangman” by Rev Theory serves as the secondary theme song. Upon SmackDown’s debut on Syfy it replaced the previous theme song “Let it Roll” by Divide the Day. Bayern Munich had been an impressive team from the start, with a seemingly easy knock out stage until they reached the semi-finals against the feared Real Madrid. A valiant effort went into the two legs of the semi-finals to see Bayern Munich clinch it in the 2nd leg via a penalty shootout, much to the struggle of Real Madrid. Despite the huge support for the Spanish royalty, Bayern’s win was well deserved to help them to their home dream final.
On the other end of the respective table was Chelsea FC who also had a similar test until the semi-final, tough comparatively harder as they had to face Napoli and Benfica, two very strong European clubs playing top quality football. The real challenge came against former champions FC Barcelona, known worldwide for their world class football and breaking the record books in the past decade. Putting all their strength to the test, Chelsea managed to park the bus and survive 3-2 overall over two fierce legs, helping them get their revenge from 2009 and also guide them to their dream final.
