The Lion King Still Fires Up the Audience After 20 Years

12th December 2017 | Category: Theater

The Tony Award-winning musical The Lion King has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in Times Square on the Broadway Plaza and we can freely say that the show is still roaring after 20 years on stage.

Elton John, who wrote the music for the Disney animated movie, was a surprised guest for the occasion and performed his hit song “Circle of Life” with the show’s company. If you still haven’t seen it, purchase your tickets here and enjoy the never-ending story of growing up and sticking up for yourself.

Twenty-four global productions of the musical have been seen by more than 90 million people all over the world and the president and producer of Disney Theatricals, Thomas Schumacher feels very proud. The show employs over 1,100 people and both Schumacher and Elton agree that director Julie Taymor is the one who elevated the material from two dimensions to three.

Julie, who studied puppetry in Japan and Indonesia, designed the costumes and paid attention to every detail. She even called composer and singer, Lebo M. to compose new music for the stage version so that the show is more authentically African.

The journey of Simba, a lion cub which goes on a journey of self-discovery, became his personal story since he himself left Africa a as young and vulnerable kid. Simba’s return to reclaim the throne of his murdered father Mustafa is best portrayed in Lebo M.’s song “He Lives In You” when Simba realizes his father isn’t gone as long as he roams the savanna and caries him in his heart. This Circle-of-life-kind of show sells out every single performance because it tells us that there will be time after us and that everything’s going to be all right. Enjoy this captivating story and  get your tickets here.

After Disney’s animated movie The Lion King rocked the cinemas in 1994 and Elton John’s songs “Can you feel the love tonight”, “Hakuna Matata” and “Circle of Life” warmed our hearts, the musical officially opened on Broadway in November, 1997. The musical was an instant hit, becoming even bigger than the movie and is still extremely popular.  This fable brought to life didn’t just win six Tony Awards and eight Drama Desk Awards but it also grossed over $1 billion, more than all Star Wars together. In fact, this musical grossed more money than any Broadway show, film release or other entertainment title in box office in the world. With over 8,310 performances, it is the third longest-running show in history after The Phantom of the Opera and Chicago.

Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco on Tour in 2018

18th October 2017 | Category: Theater

Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco announced a new tour titled “Stay Hungry”, capitalizing on the success of his top rated “The Pete & Sebastian Show” and his new book “Stay Hungry” that’s coming up in 2018.

Maniscalco is hitting the road again in early 2018 for a 15-city North American tour, starting in Montreal on January 5 and ending in New York on April 21. The tour includes stops in Boston, Chicago, Providence, Washington D.C., Toronto, Rosemont and more. If you simply can’t wait for 2018, tickets for his 2017 “Why Would You Do That?” shows can be purchased here.

We can freely say that 2017 was an incredible year for Sebastian.  His 2017 tour “Why Would You Do That?” was immediate success, in April he became a father to a daughter Serafina Simone, and when he returned to the road, after a few months off with family, his sold-out performances broke the record for most consecutive comedy appearances. His “Pete & Sebastian Show” on SiriusXM Raw Dog Comedy Channel became top-ranked show. He was also included on Forbes’ 2017’s “The World highest Paid Comedians”. Forbes described him as someone who is likely to be on their list for a long time thanks to his enthusiasm and willingness to work.

He also acted in a Will Ferrel comedy “The House” and gave voice to character Johnny the Groundhog in the animated movie “Nut Job 2” which is in the theatres now. Next year, he will co-star wit Ed Helmes and Jeremy Renner in the film “TAG”. So it seem like he will continue his success spree.

The name of the 2018 tour “Stay Hungry” is not just the name of his new book from publisher Simon & Schuster that will hit the shelves in 2018, but also his personal motto. He explained that even though he became famous and gained some success, he is always going to stay hungry for more.

Don’t miss his live performances, since they became a critically-acclaimed event. Newsday dubbed him as one of the hottest comics working stand-up today, and Los Angeles Times went further to explain:

“Onstage, there’s an impatience to Maniscalco’s delivery as well, a hair-trigger exasperation with people and modern life, punctuated with baffled expressions, percussive thumps on the microphone and wide-swung leg kicks more associated with an Olympic speed-skater than a stand-up comic.”
