David Byrne Brings American Utopia to Broadway

21st May 2019 | Category: Theater

David Byrne, the former Talking Heads frontman, announced that he will be taking his American Utopia show to Broadway.

The tickets for this show are already available right here.

Byrne’s international American Utopia tour kicked off last year in New Jersey and now, with the help from Alex Timbers and choreographer Annie-B Parson, the show will be adapted for a Broadway run later this year. The performances will take place in the 1,500-capacity Hudson Theatre for 16 weeks (October 14th to January 19th).

Byrne describes the American Utopia show as “untethered” with his band entirely mobile on the stage as he performs songs from his solo career but also tracks from when he was the Talking Heads frontman.

As to how he came up with this brilliant idea, he wrote on his website: “As I was recording the songs for my American Utopia album, it occurred to me that they would be exciting to play live – and I realized that a lot of my older material would fit right in. I imagined a live show…

I pictured a lot of drummers, a kind of drum line/samba school/second line – that would create the rhythms. I had this vision of how exciting that would be – both for me and for an audience.”

The musician also commented that he is looking forward to bringing the show before an audience who is perhaps not familiar with him, or his music.

“I thought to myself that this new context might be good – it might actually help to bring out the narrative arc a little bit more, to make it just a little more explicit,” he said.

Still, he refuses to reveal what he believes the American Utopia is about, other than saying that the title is not ironic.

Prior to the Broadway run of David Byrne’s American Utopia, the audience in Boston will have a chance to see if the show lives up to its title at 1,700-capacity Emerson Colonial Theatre from September 11th to September 28th.

Timing is Perfect to Go See The Big Bang Theory Musical Parody

1st April 2019 | Category: Theater

A beloved TV show The Big Bang Theory has made history by becoming the longest-running multi-camera American sitcom with its 276th episode in its final season.

The nerdy comedy is edging closer to its ending, overrunning Cheers in its twelfth season.

This CBS show has gone on to break many records and crush the expectations, becoming one of the most popular TV series today. As the ending nears, it might be the perfect time to turn your attention to The Big Bang Theory Parody – A Pop-Rock Musical Parody running through April at the Anne L. Bernstein Theater at the Theater Center in New York.

Tickets and dates for the show can be found here.

For the last 12 years, a nerdy group of scientists has been looking for love – and answers to space-age theory – but now find their lives turned upside down as their favourite Star Trek character comes to life.

The Big Bang Theory Pop-Rock Parody is a hilarious journey through all things the original show stands for, wrapped in a pop-rock theme. It highlights the gang’s best, the worst and the wildest.

With John McGowan as Sheldon, Baily McCall as Penny, Kevin Stevens as Leonard and Nrandon Delsid as Rajesh, the show brings all characters onto the stage in a script that contains a rather sexual innuendo.

Book, music and lyrics have all been provided by Karlan Judd, while the show is directed by Tristan J. Shuler.

The plot of the show is rather straightforward. Star Trek’s Q demands all the characters show growth and maturity to prove humanity can improve and grow. That is exactly where fun starts as characters’ foibles are exposed.

Contrary to the reputation of the original show, the parody has been welcomed with mixed critics.

Sheldon does not interact with other characters as much as the spectators could hope for. Raj is depicted as gay, Leonard is battling with self-worth issues while the girl characters are not developed to the same extent as the male ones and will interfere with men and their fun. The parody aspect makes it all very tolerable and amusing.

The show is described as “a hilarious romp through past, present and future” whereas the very fact the original comedy is heading towards its ending makes it well worth a shot with tickets available here.

The show is currently running so if you can’t wait for his production to debut, visit the theatre right now and watch the spectacular Norm Lewis, Jessie Mueller and Rosie O’Donnell at the Albert Ivar Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

One of the entertainment’s biggest stars, Tony, Emmy and Grammy winner Hugh Jackman will lead the revival of The Music Man. The Music Man was the first musical Hugh has ever played in back in 1983 while he was just a student from Sydney. He explained in a statement that during his first ever opening scene, the magic of theatre was born in him. He has been thinking about the revival of the show for years now and he was thrilled when he got the call from Scott Rudin. On the other hand, Rudin believes that the role is the best role ever written for a musical actor and that Hugh is the perfect man for the job. He is a diamond among the actors, being able to juggle big-screen action movies and old-fashioned sing-and-dance roles.

The Wolverine actor with many talents is kicking his first ever solo musical world tour performing old classics and the music from his projects. He sets off on 7 May in Great Britain and Europe before he flies off to North America. Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Chicago are just some of the cities that will get the chance to enjoy his amazing talent and charisma.
