Broadway Debut for Andrew Barth Feldman in Dear Evan Hansen

4th February 2019 | Category: Theater

A 16-year-old actor who triumphed at the 2018 Jimmy Awards, Andrew Barth Feldman, has finally had the chance to show his enormous talent on Broadway.

On 30 January, he made his Broadway debut in the lead role of Dear Evan Hansen following Taylor Trensch who played his last performance on 27 January. The high-school junior Feldman is amazing and we can’t wait to see what personal touch he will add to this deeply intimate show.

Tickets for all performances can be found here.

Andrew Bert Feldman is currently a student at Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, New York. He won the 2018 National High School Musical Theatre Award (Jimmy Award) for Best Performance by an Actor for his take on Jason Robert Brown’s “I Love Betsy” from Honeymoon in Vegas.

He is the first teenager to take on the role of Evan in this much-awarded musical and he joined the amazing cast including Mallory Bechtel, Lisa Brescia, Alex Boniello, Sky Lakota-Lynch, Phoenix Best and original cast members Michael Park and Jennifer Laura Thompson. He is portraying a character of Evan Hansen who struggles with social anxiety and making friends. After a series of incidents during his first days of senior year, he fabricates a relationship with a deceased student to become closer to the boy’s family and finally feels like he belongs somewhere.

Dear Evan Hansen is a musical that made a lot of waves among the critics and hit a lot of nerves with its deeply personal and therapeutic story. The Washington Post described it as “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history.” The New York Times called it “a gut-punching, breathtaking knockout of a musical.”

And NBC Nightly News declares the musical “an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond.” The play won six Tony Awards in 2017 including the Best Musical Award and 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Don’t miss the chance to see it and buy your tickets right now.

The names behind this profoundly contemporary musical are huge. It features a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy, Tony and Academy Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (best known for movies La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif ( for Rent and Next to Normal).

According to the New York Post, Hamilton grossed more than $4 million last week with an average ticket $375.39 which is the first for any Broadway show to gross in a single week. It was the highest-grossing week ever on Broadway with $57.8 million and 378,910 seats filled. In 2017 the total gross was $35.8 and 244,973 seats filled in the last week of the year. The Lion King shattered the Minskoff Theatre record scooping $3.7 million over nine shows. Mean Girls earned $1.9 million for eight performances while The Ferryman pulled just a bit over $1 million for eight shows.

Two play properties also did exceedingly well, with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child setting a record for weekly ticket sales for a play and $2.5 million for eight shows, with To Kill A Mockingbird scoring $1.7 million over eight shows. Watch Jake Gyllenhaal in Sea Wall/A Life

24th December 2018 | Category: Theater

We really have something special to look for in the New Year since Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal will perform in New York premiere Sea Wall/A Life.

The show will have a performance from 26 January until 24 March in the Public’s downtown space on Lafayette Street in New York City. Don’t miss the chance to watch this A-list actor perform on stage and buy your tickets now.

Tony nominee Tom Sturridge will join Jake Gyllenhaal in this play written by Tony and Olivier winner Simon Stephens and Broadway alum Nick Payne and directed by Carrie Cracknell. This play is basically a pair of two monologues, first performed by Sturridge, about love and the human need to know the unknowable. The second will be performed by Gyllenhaal and is about how we say goodbye to those we love the most.

These one-person plays offer their audience intimacy and urgency of an encounter with someone who needs to get something important off their chest. Sturridge has previously collaborated with Stephens on Heisenberg and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time but hasn’t performed on Broadway since his 2017’s 1984. Gyllenhaal also made a short break from performing after his 2017’s Sunday in the Park with George. This is Gyllenhaal’s third collaboration with Payne since they worked on Constellations and If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet.

In A Life, Gyllenhaal plays a man struggling to reconcile his emotions surrounding the death of his father and the birth of his daughter. The piece started as a monologue that Payne performed at London’s Donmar Warehouse in 2013, in the aftermath of his own father’s death. Gyllenhaal spent the next four years begging the playwright to let him perform it. By the time he decided to let him, Payne had become a father, and two worked together with Cracknell to bring A Life into its current form. Gyllenhaal was eager to perform something so personal and vulnerable.

“The nature of being alone onstage, as much as it might delight the 30 per cent narcissist that I am, terrifies the other percentage,” he says. “At its best, it’s not a performance. There are no masks, no protection.”

Gyllenhaal is most famous for his roles in blockbuster movies like Prisoners, Southpaw (see trailer above), Nightcrawler and Prince of Persia. We simply can’t wait to get to the theatre and immerse ourselves in a different type of performance.
