Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

24th May 2018 | Category: Theater

We have great news for you if you are a fan of Harry Potter movies and books.

A stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Son, officially opened on Broadway this April at the Lyric Theatre so don’t waste any time, buy your tickets here, and check what happened to your favorite wizards.

A two-part stage play was written by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany and J. K. Rowling and the previews began in 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London. On 22 April, it officially opened at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway with actors Anthony Boyle, Sam Clemmett, Noma Dumezweni, Poppi Miller and many others.

The Lyric Theatre is a great place for the huge debut of the play since it was recently renovated and its elaborate wing and nest interior has already taken over the Great White Way. Great place to catch up with middle aged Harry, Hermione and Ron as well as the second generation.

The story begins nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and a father of three school-age children.

His younger son, Albus Severus Potter is about to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and he must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. Named after Harry’s two dead Hogwarts heroes, Dumbledore and Snape, the boy buckles most under the shadow of his famous father to whom he cannot connect as a son. Harry is also living in his own shadow, taking orders from the adult Hermione in the Ministry.

The past refuses to stay where it belongs and father and son must unite in their fight. They learn the uncomfortable truth that darkness comes from the most unexpected places.

The play is amazing and definitely worth seeing according to critics. At the 2017 Laurence Olivier Awards, the London production received a record-breaking eleven nominations and an again record-breaking nine awards including, Best New Play, Best Actor, Best Actor in Supporting Role, Best Actress in Supporting Role and Best Director. Since the cast remained pretty much the same, we have high expectations from the Broadway production.

We are glad this show, full of magic, is finally hitting Broadway so don’t miss it and purchase your tickets here.

John Legend as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar

30th March 2018 | Category: Theater

For all of John Legend fans, we have great news!

Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert is approaching fast and you will finally get to see it. This TV adaptation will be aired on NBC on Easter Sunday and the Broadway rock opera is currently performing in Chicago.  No, it’s now a joke for April’s Fool Day so hurry up and buy your tickets right now.

John Legend announced the show on his Facebook profile and gave fans a sneak peek into his role and shared his enthusiasm about the show. This was a challenge for John vocally and musically and playing such an iconic character such Jesus was an honor.

He stars alongside Alice Cooper, Brandon Victor Dixon and Sara Bareilles, three incredible actors and vocalists and he strongly believes they will nail it on Sunday. The crew’s preparations are nearing its climactic finish in a basement of the Church of St Paul the Apostle in Manhattan.

The ten-time Grammy winner is playing Jesus arriving at the Last Supper, where he passes his disciples an empty bottle of wine and a roll of paper towels. A large part of the plot is based on Judas, deeply dissatisfied with the direction Jesus steers his disciples. Don’t miss this awesome TV adaptation with the most powerful song Legend has to perform “Gethsemane”. The John himself described it as his formidable Mount Everest. The song is one of the most iconic songs from the original opera.

The rock opera debuted on Broadway in 1970 and is mostly sung-through. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s rock opera about the last days of the Messiah’s life was nominated for five Tony awards. “I Don’t Know How to Love Him”, Mary Magdalene’s torch song reached Top 40.

It depicts political and interpersonal struggles between Jesus and Judas that are not present in the Bible.

Contemporary attitudes and sensibilities pervade the lyrics and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the opera and is definitely an interesting show to see and this TV show will also contribute to the opera’s popularity. John Legend may even come to Broadway as a performer. Weber and Rice are also working on the TV adaptation as executive producers.

Tickets for all performances can be found here.
