Gorillaz Release New Song ‘PAC-MAN’ Featuring ScHoolboy Q
Gorillaz have shared their latest song called “PAC-MAN”. The song was recorded in London prior to the COVID-19 pandemic,
It features rapper ScHoolboy Q and was co-produced with Prince Paul and Remi Kabaka Jr.
The track is part of the Song Machine series, consisting of singles and music videos. It presents itself as a collection of singles and music videos, dubbed “episodes” each featuring previously unannounced guests.
The series started in January this year with “Momentary Bliss,” with Slowthai and Slaves; then there was “Désolé,” with Fatoumata Diawar; “Aries,” with Peter Hook and Georgia; and “Friday 13th,” with Octavian.
“Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do,” said Gorillaz drummer Russel in a statement.
“Gorillaz breaking the mould ’cos the mould got old. World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case….”
The series Season One of Song Machine is set to consist of 10 episodes and will be released as a compilation titled Almanac in October 2020.
Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett will publish the band’s first-ever Gorillaz Almanac to look back at their visual history, as a celebration of their 20th anniversary.
“Twenty years of drawing the same characters, you can’t avoid change; I think I tried to draw more realism into them around the fourth album. Now I find myself looking back at the original style, which reminds me of Seventies Hanna-Barbera cartoons that I grew up on,” Hewlett told Rolling Stone in May.
“Ultimately, I would love to create an animation style as good as Chuck Jones’ style during the late Seventies. Also, I can afford to buy better pens now.”
Gorillaz released albums Humanz in 2017 and The Now Now, which is their latest album, in 2018.
