J Balvin to Become First-Ever Latin American Headliner at Lollapalooza Festival
Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin is making history as the first Latin American artist ever to headline Lollapalooza Festival this summer.
This is a significant moment for Latin Music in the US mainstream. He will be among the eight headliners including Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Twenty One Pilots, The Strokes, Tame Impala, Flume, and The Chainsmokers. This amazing lineup and much more awaits you between 1 and 4 August in Chicago so hurry up and secure your tickets on time.
Lollapalooza usually has two headliners perform at the main stages on opposite ends of Chicago’s Grant Park on each night of the four-day festival.
Since J Balvin is listed as the last headliner on the festival’s official poster, he’s earned a spot higher than any Latin artist has reached, and even above American stars like Kacey Musgraves, Lil Wayne, Janelle Monae, Meek Mill and others. The 33-year-old artist made his glory mostly thanks to the massive 2017 hit “Mi Gente”. Except for this sensational song with Willy William and “I Like It” with Cardi B and Bad Bunny, the 33-year-old Colombian star has amassed a strong back catalogue of Latin hits, including “Ay Vamos”, “Ginza”, “6 AM” and “X.”
He has also worked with Beyonce, Cardi B, and Justin Bieber in the past and previously admitted he’s only interested in teaming up with artists he “loves and respects”.
“I just work with people that I love and respect, that inspire me to be a better person, a better artist. I think it was a really beautiful cultural move. People see me with the queen, like, if she’s working with him it’s because he’s for real. She’s not the type of girl that works with everybody. All the other collaborations are helping me a lot to keep spreading the vibe that I want.”
J Balvin becoming Lollapalooza headliner opens the door for other Latin artists to join in the future. This is a huge step forward for the proliferation and inclusion of Latin Music within the US mainstream.
