Karnivool Postpone Their ‘Sound Awake’ Anniversary Tour to 2021
Karnivool have first pushed back the shows slated for April this year to September 2020 due to the COVID-19. And now, the band will be celebrating a decade of their second studio album Sound Awake a little bit later, with the anniversary tour now scheduled to take place in March 2021.
The prog-rockers have also added three new dates, one each in Kingscliff, Newcastle and Wollongong.
“Events in Victoria (much love to everyone there!) and an abundance of caution in other parts of the country mean it would be very difficult for the tour to cross some state borders and now does not feel like the best time to gather together in celebration,” said the band in a statement. “And – let’s face it – it’s going to get sweaty and the singalong will be huge – we want everyone to feel good about that!
“We are not willing to compromise the show planned and this tour is not one that can be done in parts, so we are moving the dates to March 2021. This may seem like aeons away but it’s the best way we can assure everyone that it will happen then safely.”
“Please hold onto all the ’11th Anniversary’ jokes,” they add, “cause we have already made them.”
Fans in Western Australia should also keep their eyes peeled for an impending announcement, the band promising “a different treat lined up”.
Released in June 2009, Sound Awake debuted at number two on the ARIA Album Charts on 15 June 2009, behind The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D.. It was also the top independent release in Australia, debuting at number one on the AIR Charts. The album received Gold certification for sales in Australia.
Karnivool were last seen on tour before the end of 2019 for the Good Things festival.
