Kenny Rogers to Retire After Nashville Concert
On September 25, 2015, the American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and entrepreneur, Kenny Rogers announced on NBC’s Today Show his intention to retire after one final tour in order to spend more time with his wife and twin boys.
Performances of his ongoing tour are scheduled throughout summer and fall 2017 but few days ago, he has announced the exact date of what will be his final show.
The 78-year-old singer is set to hit the stage one last time in Nashville, on 25 October 2017, at Bridgestone Arena concert by the name All in for the Gambler: Kenny Rogers’ Farewell Concert.
The show will bring fans, friends and music icons together to celebrate Rogers. The show will feature performances by Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, Little Big Town, Idina Menzel, The Flaming Lips, Jamey Johnson, Elle King and many other special guests yet to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
“It’s going to be a great night, and I’m going to be proud of it and it’s more for me to say thank you and say bye to those people than it is for them to say thank you to me,” Rogers said. “It’s kind of fun for me to think about the chance to get together with everybody one last time.”
All performers will take turns covering the singer’s hits like ”Lady”, “The Gambler”, “Lucille” and “She Believes in Me”. A ready-made highlight of the evening will be the performance with Dolly Parton with whom he collaborated on occasional projects through years. Rogers and Parton first dueted in the 80s and their song “Island in the Stream” won multiple awards and a place in country music history. The song was No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 and sold two million copies in the United States.
Kenny has been most successful in country music but he has charted more than 120 hit singles in various music genres. He was No1 on country and pop album charts for more than 200 individual weeks in the US alone and sold over 100 million records worldwide throughout his career. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and a member of Country Music Hall of Fame.

“During my commercial peak years of the 70s and 80s, the career pace was so fast and furious that it was tough to absorb all of the career moments that happened to me.”
“It’s much more than I ever expected to – and much more than I deserve. It’s really been something to behold for me. It’s very hard to put it in perspective and say ‘That was my career,’ because it wasn’t what I set out to do. I was just trying to survive in the business.”
