This Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular production features brilliant new scene design by Paul Brown, original costume design by Tony Award-winner Maria Bjornson, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Paule Constable, brand new choreography by Scott Ambler and new staging by director Laurence Connor. It came to no surprise that critics described this production as breathtaking and “bigger and better than ever”.
The musical is based on a French novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, thrilling and romantic story about a musical genius who dwells in a labyrinth beneath the Opera House in Paris.
Shunned and rejected by society because of his facial deformity, he takes Christine, a young soprano under his wing and grooms her for operatic fame while he falls madly in love with her. She becomes more and more successful, handsome young men court her and he falls into jealousy and rage and terrorizes the opera company.

The musical premiered in 1986 in London’s West End and on Broadway in 1988. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music and now legendary songs “Phantom of the Opera”, “All I Ask of You”, “Think of Me” and “The Music of the Night” led it to become the most successful musical of all time. It is the longest running show in the Broadway history and celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance back in 2012.
Phantom was the most financially successful entertainment event with total estimated worldwide gross receipts of over $5.6 billion and total Broadway gross of $845 million, until The Lion King passed it in 2014. The musical won 7 Tony Awards and 7 Drama Desk Awards.
