The Smashing Pumpkins Are Coming Back with Three Original Members
The Smashing Pumpkins have just announced their comeback tour with three out of four original members hitting the road in the summer. Don’t miss out this 90s giants’ tour for the first time since 2000 and purchase your tickets right away.
It wouldn’t be the Smashing Pumpkins reunion without any scandal. The announcement of the tour came just after weeks of drama involving former bassist D’arcy Wretzky. The band claimed they invited her to come back to the band and join the tour but she deferred multiple invitations to participate in demo sessions or even meet face-to-face. D’arcy called this “a complete lie” and also described Corgan as “insufferable” and as if he has “a brain tumor.”
The three original members are heading out on the road for the first time since 2000 and they are delighted they have the chance for new beginning. They are planning to perform with a bang and the staging will be unlike they had ever done before. Billy Corgan has reunited with classic lineup members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, plus the 2000s guitarist Jeff Schroeder. They will be celebrating songs from their first five albums from Gish to Mashina. It is still vague which member will play bass in Wretzky’s place. They have all played guitar historically and Chamberlin is the band’s drummer, so it is still an unclear situation. More information is coming in the upcoming weeks.
“Some 30 years ago, as The Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha and I began a musical journey in the cramped rear bedroom of my Father’s house,” the famously cantankerous Corgan said in a statement announcing the tour. “And so it’s magic to me that we’re able to coalesce once more around the incredible Jimmy Chamberlin, to celebrate those songs we’ve made together.”
The tour is scheduled to start on 12 July in Arizona and finishes in Idaho on 6 September after making stops in Texas, California, Canada, New York City and many others.
Tickets for all dates can be found here.
The video announcing tour features Ali Leanger and LySandra Roberts who appeared on the cover of the band’s 1993 album “Siamese Dream”.
