U2 Joshua Tree Tour Poised to Become the Biggest One in 2017
U2 are delighted to anonunce their Joshua Tree Tour 2017, produced by Live Nation Global Touring, is on track to be the biggest tour of 2017, surpassing 2.4 million tickets across North and South America, the UK, Europe and Mexico.
The tour earned $62 million just in a first month on the road and $123.8 million so far and who knows what the total sum would be in the end after the 51st concert finished on 22 October.
“I’m grateful that the tour has been so well received and humbled by its incredible success,” the band’s manager Guy Oseary said.
“The album has a deeply meaningful place in so many people’s lives, mine as well,” Oseary adds.
“To honor that is both challenging and a true privilege. I’m appreciative of everyone that has come out to and will be coming out to this tour.”
With this tour, U2 is commemorating the 30th anniversary of their album from 1987, The Joshua Tree. It is the first time the rock band is touring in promotion of an old album rather than promoting the release of a new one.
The main idea originally was to play a set of one-offs in the US and Europe to commemorate the Joshua Tree, playing all songs from the album like “Red Hill Mining Town”, “With or Without You”, “Where the Streets Have No Name” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, but they kept adding more and more dates until it became a full concerts tour instead.
This worldwide tour is visiting stadiums across four legs: North America from May to July, Europe from July to August, North America again in September and Latin America in October.
The North American tour kicked off in Vancouver, Canada on 12 May 2017 as an immediate success and experienced by over 1 million fans, it came to a triumphant close on 1 July in Cleveland. U2 will also perform in London, Barcelona, Paris, Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels before heading back to North America on 3 September. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are performing as an opening act in Europe and Latin America and Beck for the US dates. Just pick the city closest to you and enjoy this breath-taking experience with tickets available for purchase here.
“For me, a U2 show is a spiritually awakening experience,” Oseary suggests. “The fans play a big part in that. You can feel a sense of community and unity within the audience at these shows.”
U2 wish that they can go everywhere but they have to go back and finish the new album. The band previewed the new song “The Little Things That Give You Away” from their follow-up to 2014 Songs of Innocence. The new album Sons of Experience is expected to be released in early 2018.
For now though, you can just select a venue of your preference, go on to buy a ticket here, become a part of this global phenomenon and witness the band ascend on the full-size stadium stage the same way their career did.
