Santana was one of the very last acts that emerged from the San Francisco Music scene in the 60’s. They enjoyed a very large amount of success towards the end of that particular decade as well as into the 70’s. Santana recorded its self-titled debut album as they began to tour nationally, making a very important stop at the Woodstock festival on August 15th, in 1969.
The album “Santana” was released that very same month. This album remained on the charts for more than two years as it spawned the Top 10 single “Evil Ways.” Santana’s second album, “Abraxas,” was then released in the year 1970, and it became even more popular than their first album. It made it to Number 1 with its huge hits of “Oye Como Va” as well as “Black Magic Woman.”
While this bands personnel changed many times through the course of years, Carlos Santana remained to steadily guide this group to commercial success over the next quarter of a century. This amazing band was still selling many albums well into the ‘80s which included the 1981 hit album “Zebop” which also featured a Top 20 single “Winning.”
In the year of 1986 Santana staged a 20 year anniversary reunion concert which featured many of the past band members. This amazing group continued to release many albums without much success, until the album “Supernatural” that was released in the year of 1999. This album featured guest stars appearances which included Dave Matthews, Wyclef Jean, Eric Clapton, Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, and Lauryn Hill.
