Kanye West Plans to Tour Australia in 2022, But Had Melbourne Stadium Show Date Foiled by Football Match

28th January 2022 | Category: Concerts

Kanye West is aiming to tour Australia this year, according to a new report, but a clash with the Australian Football League (AFL) is said to have disrupted his plans for a concert at a stadium in Melbourne.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, West – now legally known as Ye – had planned to perform at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on March 21 as part of the tour.

However, an opening fixture between the St Kilda and Collingwood AFL teams is scheduled for March 18, with the gap between those dates not providing adequate time for West’s production crew to bump in for the show.

The newspaper reports that “two sources with knowledge of [West’s] plans for an Australian tour” said West’s tour promoters, TEG, approached the AFL, who own Marvel Stadium, asking them to move the match to another venue. The Herald points out the likely alternative venue would have been the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The AFL reportedly declined the request. The Herald’s sources claim the rapper will now perform at the venue before the AFL season starts, “most likely” the weekend beginning March 12.

The arena, in Melbourne’s Docklands area, has been named Marvel Stadium since 2018, after a negotiation between its operators and the Walt Disney Company. Taylor Swift performed at the venue in 2018 as part of her Australian tour, while U2 performed there the following year.

West last performed in Australia in 2014 as part of his ‘Yeezus’ tour. On that run, he performed at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

Yesterday (January 27), West announced he would release new album ‘DONDA 2’ next month, also revealing it was executive produced by Future. The album is slated to arrive on February 22.

The Head and the Heart Announce Tour with Dawes, Shakey Graves, Jade Bird

26th January 2022 | Category: Concerts

The Head and the Heart have mapped out an extensive run of 2022 North American tour dates featuring a trio of folk-favorite special guests: Shakey Graves, Dawes, and Jade Bird.

Dubbed the “Every Shade of Blue Tour,” the trek is named after THATH’s upcoming single, due for release this Friday, January 21st. Stretching from spring through early fall, the itinerary is split into three legs, each featuring a different act in support on select dates.

The May 20th through June 10th leg (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, New York, Boston, Milwaukee) will see The Head and the Heart accompanied by Jade Bird. Dawes will then join them on the road from August 2nd through the 22nd, with stops in Austin, Oklahoma City, Boise, Missoula, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Finally, the September 14th through October 15th stretch will find THATH playing with Shakey Graves in cities including Denver, Columbus, Toronto, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, and Nashville.

“It’s wild to think that by the time we get back on the road this year, it will have been over two and a half years since we last toured,” the band said in a press statement.

“We’re so excited to bring new songs to life on stage every night, traveling alongside artists who inspire us. We can’t wait to get out there, doing what we do with an even greater sense of gratitude.”

You can also pre-save “Every Shade of Blue” now to be entered to win a painting from the band that inspired the single’s artwork. The winner and a guest will also be flown to Seattle to receive their prize, plus hang with the band and enjoy a private acoustic performance from The Head and the Heart’s Jonathan Russel, Charity Thielen, and Matty Gervais.

Steel Panther Announce Spring 2022 US Tour

21st January 2022 | Category: Concerts

Steel Panther have announced the first leg of their 2022 “Res-Erections” US tour, consisting of 13 dates in March.

Never the ones to turn down a good pun, the comedic glam metal heroes parodied the latest Matrix film with their upcoming tour and poster. “You won’t need a pill to rock this hard,” the band proudly claims.

Any Given Sin will support the trek, which kicks off March 10th in St. Petersburg, Florida, and runs through a March 26th concert in Dubuque, Iowa. The route will hit 13 cities in 16 days, and the press release states that it’s only the first leg, so more tour dates are forthcoming. Tickets go on sale Friday (January 21st) at 10 a.m. local time and can be purchased via Ticketmaster, with pre-sales beginning Wednesday for most shows.

“Even though they are known for so many things throughout the world, we love Pfizer for their work in erectile dysfunction and their amazing blue pills,” the band explained in the press announcement.

“That is why we named our 2022 tour in honor of them. Those blue pills have made our world a better place. Res-Erections is going to be the party to not be missed and we are pulling out some surprises for these shows.”

The “Res-Erections” tour will also be one of the first occasions for fans to see Steel Panther’s new bassist Rikki Dazzle, who joined the group last October.

The band announced the departure of longtime bassist Lexxi Foxx (aka Travis Haley) back in July. While the actual reason for Haley’s exit wasn’t revealed, Steel Panther did offer up a tongue-in-cheek version of events, explaining that Lexxi Foxx had “started his side business, ‘Sexy Lexxi’s Prettiest Pets,’ to bring in money for Botox during the lockdown” because “his love for making pets pretty was greater than his love for being pretty himself.” In actuality, he formed the new band Hollywood Gods N’ Monsters.

Animals as Leaders Announce Spring 2022 US Tour

19th January 2022 | Category: Concerts

Animals as Leaders will embark on a spring US tour in support of their upcoming album The Parrhesia, arriving March 29th.

There will be a full night of music at each concert, with Animals as Leaders performing two sets: a full-album run-through of The Parrhesia and another featuring songs from their back catalogue.

The trek begins with a stop in Denver on March 30th and runs through an April 22nd date in Los Angeles.

So far the group has shared two tracks from upcoming The Parrhesia, the group’s first studio LP since 2016. Singles “Monomyth” and “The Problem of Other Minds” both see Animals as Leaders in full prog mode as they further expand on their signature instrumental sound.

“It’s been a while since we’ve released a body of work,” guitarist Tosin Abasi said in the initial press release for the LP. “We’re really proud of this collection of songs as well as the visual components, and are excited to share it with all of you.”

Animals as Leaders started out as a solo outlet for Abasi, whose creative partnership with classically trained guitarist Javier Reyes and Berklee-educated drummer Matt Garstka is built on a shared love of everything from fusion to technical death metal. Garstka graced the cover of Modern Drummer in 2015.

In one of his many appearances on their cover, Guitar World named Tosin among the Guitarists Of The Decade. Rolling Stone featured him as part of their “Young Guns” series. The Chicago Tribune declared him “the closest thing prog-metal has to an Eddie Van Halen.” Kerrang! included their album “Weightless” among its Best Albums of 2011. “The Joy Of Motion” entered the Billboard 200 at No. 24 in 2014, and “The Madness Of Many” cracked the Top 20 in 2016. Now more than a decade into their career, a quick look at the bands they’ve toured with demonstrates the consistently diverse appeal of Animals as Leaders. It’s a list that includes Korn, Deftones, Thrice, Meshugga, Underoath, as well as major festivals with the likes of Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, and Slipknot.

The Eagles Add String of New Dates to US ‘Hotel California’ Tour

15th January 2022 | Category: Concerts

The Eagles have added a string of new dates to the US leg of their upcoming ‘Hotel California’ tour.

The legendary group – comprising Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill – announced back in November that they would be heading out on the road in celebration of their 1976 album ‘Hotel California’.

Now they unveiled a number of new stops in Cleveland, Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Columbus, Buffalo, Belmont Park, Houston, Nashville, Tulsa, and Salt Lake City.

Each stop will feature a choir and an orchestra accompanying the veteran rockers for a run-through of the iconic album before an interval followed by a set of the band’s greatest hits.

In October, Eagles confirmed huge shows across the UK and Europe as part of their ‘Fifty Years’ tour.

Eagles will join Elton John, Pearl Jam, Duran Duran, and more at BST Hyde Park 2022.

Before the COVID pandemic, the group had set out plans to return to the UK in the summer of 2021 to bring their ‘Hotel California’ tour to London’s Wembley Stadium for two nights.

The announcement came after the rockers played the album in its entirety for the first time ever at three sold-out shows in Las Vegas in September of 2019. The show featured 77 musicians on stage, including a 46-piece orchestra and 22-strong choir.

Eagles, alongside Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses, and Green Day, were among the bands to receive PPP loans from the US federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program during the COVID crisis last year.
