Franz Ferdinand Announce UK and European ‘Greatest Hits’ Tour

11th November 2021 | Category: Concerts

Franz Ferdinand have announced a UK and European headline tour for 2022.

The Scottish band will head out on the road next spring in support of their Hits To The Head ‘best of’ album, which is due for release on March 11 via Domino Records.

Kicking off in Barcelona on March 15, the run of dates also includes shows in Madrid, Lisbon, Bilbao, Munich, Milan and Rennes.

Alex Kapranos and co. are set to return to the UK on April 1 for a gig at Alexandra Palace in London. Performances will then follow at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester (April 4) and OVO Hydro in Glasgow (April 5).

Further European dates are scheduled for between April 7 and July 8, when Franz Ferdinand will play the Adrenaline Stadium in Moscow..

Franz Ferdinand announced their upcoming ‘best of’ collection by sharing a new single, ‘Billy Goodbye’, earlier this month. The album will also include another unheard track called ‘Curious’.

Speaking to NME in a recent interview, Alex Kapranos described the latter as “quite a different-sounding song” for the group

“Sonically, it’s more at the silky dance floor end of what the band is about,” he added.

Kapranos also spoke about the process of deciding on a tracklist for Hits To The Head, explaining that it was “like how you would choose the setlist at a festival”, mixing “bangers” with more “retrospective” moments.

News of Franz Ferdinand’s new compilation and the accompanying tour comes after the band parted ways with their original drummer, Paul Thomson.

Sharing a statement on social media the band wrote:

“Hello world. Paul is leaving the band. It was a bit of a shocker for us when we found out, so it probably will be for some of you too.”

Thomson joined Franz Ferdinand when they formed back in 2002, and has been friends with his former bandmates for over 25 years.

“We’re glad we shared those adventures and experiences together and look forward to hearing what he gets up to next,” the group added. He has been replaced by Audrey Tait.

Bon Iver Unveil 2022 US Tour Dates

1st November 2021 | Category: Concerts

Bon Iver have announced a series of US shows across the first half of 2022.

The tour will see the band head across Texas, New York, Louisiana, Maine, Pennsylvania, and a number of other US states between March and June. The US dates will precede Bon Iver’s rescheduled UK and European tour dates in October and November.

“We are humbled and grateful to be performing for you all; it’s time to gather up again,” the band wrote on their Instagram post.

The shows will be supported by either Dijon or Bonny Light Horseman.

The tour will coincide with the March 25 release of a 10th-anniversary special edition of Bon Iver’s acclaimed album “Bon Iver, Bon Iver,” which includes five stripped down songs performed by Vernon and bandmate Sean Carey at AIR Studios in London in October 2011. “Bon Iver, Bon Iver” won Best Alternative Album at the 2012 Grammys.

Bon Iver’s latest studio album, ‘i, i’, was released in 2019. Since releasing ‘i, i’, bandleader Justin Vernon released a new album through his side project with The National’s Aaron Dessner, Big Red Machine. The album, ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ arrived back in August and featured collaborations with Taylor Swift, Anaïs Mitchell, Sharon Van Etten, and Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold.

The group also debuted the song “PDLIF (Please Don’t Live In Fear)” which was released in the spring of 2020 to benefit COVID-19 relief efforts.

Gang Of Four Announce 2022 North American Tour

31st October 2021 | Category: Concerts

Gang Of Four have announced a North American tour for 2022, with former Slint bassist David Pajo joining the band on guitar.

Set to kick off next March, the outing will see the group perform live for the first time since the death of Andy Gill in February 2020.

The new touring line-up includes founding members Jon King and Hugo Burnham, though bassist Dave Allen will not appear at the shows due to personal reasons. However, a press release states that the musician “remains an essential and vital part of the band”. Former Gang Of Four bassist Sara Lee has returned to the group in his place.

Pajo, who has also performed with Interpol and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, confirmed with “tremendous excitement, humility [and] gratitude” that he would be playing with his “lifelong heroes” Gang Of Four at next year’s gigs.

“Pinch-me-I’m-dreaming!” he added. “I really cannot even begin to tell you how overjoyed I am to play music with Hugo, Jon, and Sara.. for you! So I’ll stop here. Please come celebrate with us in 2022.”

Gang Of Four’s upcoming US tour will draw on material from their ’77-81’ box set of early material, which came out last December. The collection boasts a double LP of the “never officially released” ‘Live at American Indian Center 1980’ as well as remastered versions of ‘Entertainment!’ (1979) and ‘Solid Gold’ (1981).

Gang of Four influenced a number of successful alternative rock acts throughout the 1980s and 1990s. R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe cites Gang of Four as one of his band’s chief influences; Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers has stated that Gang of Four were the single most important influence on his band’s early music. Kurt Cobain stated that Nirvana started as “a Gang of Four and Scratch Acid ripoff”.

From the 2000s, the band enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, initially due to the emergence of new post-punk revival bands such as Clinic, Liars, The Rapture, Neils Children, and Radio 4, and then the rise of Franz Ferdinand, We Are Scientists, and Bloc Party.

Mitski has recently announcement of a spring 2022 tour in North America and Europe and now she has shared details of a new headline London show set to take place next year and a slew of venue upgrades due to huge demand.

The singer-songwriter returned earlier this month with a new single ‘Working For The Knife’, her first new material since her 2018 album Be The Cowboy.

The UK run, which includes stops in Bristol, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, and London, will now see Mitski move to bigger venues in Leeds, Glasgow, and Manchester after quickly selling out the original shows.

In addition, London fans now have another chance to see Mitski perform as she’s added a new date at O2 Academy Brixton on April 29, the night after her gig at The Roundhouse in Camden.

Japanese band CHAI will be on tour with Mitski from February 17 to March 10, including the Los Angeles shows at Shrine Exposition Hall on March 2 and 3, and MICHELLE opens the second, from March 21-31, including the NYC show at Radio City Music Hall on March 24. Sasami opens all of the European and UK dates.

The new track ‘Working For The Knife’, was produced by longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland.

“It’s about going from being a kid with a dream, to a grown up with a job, and feeling that somewhere along the way you got left behind,” Mitski said of the track in a statement. “It’s being confronted with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and seeing no way out of it.”

SZA Announces ‘Good Days Fall 2021’ US Tour Dates

21st October 2021 | Category: Concerts

SZA has announced that she will be playing a few “intimate performances” in November.  The singer is hitting Houston, Austin, and Dallas before leaving Texas for Denver and Salt Lake City before winding up at Day N Vegas Fest.

While there’s still no clear time frame as to when her follow-up album to Ctrl will be released, SZA has been sharing a handful of new songs across 2021. She was recently tapped by the movie Dear Evan Hansen to craft her own rendition of “The Anonymous Ones”, and recently linked with the Colombian queen Kali Uchis for a Spanish-speaking number in “fue mejor.” Also, she appeared as a feature on James Blake‘s latest record Friends That Break Your Heart.

Last month, she surprise-released three new songs on an anonymous Soundcloud page. She confirmed the tracks – ‘Nightbird’, ‘I Hate You’ and ‘Joni’ – were her work by tweeting a link to the page and saying she was “dumping random thoughts”.

Prior to the release of the new material, SZA joked that she was “probably about to scrap all of [the next record] and start from scratch”.

“I think they’ll be surprised to know that it’s not what they thought, and it’s not coming when they thought,” she added. “I hope that they’ll be pleasantly surprised.”

All tour date info is available here.
