Coldplay Announce Details of Their Eco-Friendly 2022 World Stadium Tour

19th October 2021 | Category: Concerts

Coldplay have announced details of their 2022 world stadium tour, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability.

Back in 2019 the band announced that they were taking time to consider how they would tour in the future in order to make it as environmentally friendly as possible.

Coldplay’s new tour dates come right after the band’s new album release – Music Of The Spheres and the second single, “My Universe” featuring South Korean pop group BTS.  The band will be supported by H.E.R. and London Grammar, starting in March in Costa Rica.

North American dates will then take place across May and June, before the band head to Europe in July. A UK run of shows closes the tour, including three dates at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Discussing the idea behind the tour, the band said in a statement:

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

“We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Integral to the tour are its eco-friendly measures, which have been set out on a new ‘sustainability’ section of Coldplay’s official website.

The measures include cutting direct emissions by 50 percent compared to the band’s last tour in 2016 and 2017, using 100 percent renewable energy, and having solar installations at every venue.

Fans who travel to the shows by public transport will be rewarded with discounts, while the band are donating 10 percent of all of the tour’s earnings to climate change organizations. One tree will also be planted for every ticket sold.

Dinosaur Jr. Reschedule US Tour Dates

18th October 2021 | Category: Concerts

Dinosaur Jr. have postponed their 2021 West Coast tour due to Covid, and they’ve now announced the rescheduled dates. Shows start February 3 in Pioneertown and wrap up February 26 in Denver, and include two nights at L.A.’s The Fonda on February 19 and 20. The band noted that “All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates” and you can “visit your point of purchase for ticketing questions/refunds.” They also advise fans to check their venue’s Covid policy as they vary.

Meanwhile, Dinosaur Jr’s East Coast tour, which is with Ryley Walker as a supporting act, begins November 11 in Philly. During that tour, they will be making stops in Nashville, Carrboro, New Haven, Brooklyn, and more. They play their final show out East in Boston, Massachusetts on November 27.

Dinosaur Jr. released a new album titled Sweep it Into Space earlier this year. This is the Massachusetts-based trio’s 12th album overall, and fifth since reforming their classic line-up in 2005.

Having first formed the band in 1985 with J Mascis and drummer Murph, the bassist Lou Barlow loves the moments that reflect the dynamism of Dinosaur Jr. working purely as a power trio. “It really cuts it down to the bare essentials of the band,” he said of their spare, yet steel-reinforced approach.

“I think it’s a lost art with a lot of rock bands and recording techniques. People are like, ‘It sounds too empty; you’ve got to put rhythm guitars in there!’ I’ve never liked that. I think it should be like the ’60s, like, ‘No, fuck that! It’s 1967 – bass in the left channel, guitar in the right.’ Cut it down and let the guitar talk. Let the bass be heard.”

It was recently announced that a documentary about Dinosaur Jr. was being created to showcase the story behind the band. The trailer for the documentary was released in late September, just a few days before it would be released in theaters across the UK and Europe.

Tickets for all the upcoming Dinosaur Jr. shows can be found here.

Billy Idol Announces UK Arena Tour with The Go-Go’s

6th October 2021 | Category: Concerts

Billy Idol has announced details of his UK arena tour next summer and confirmed that The Go-Go’s will support him on all of the dates.

Idol’s ‘Roadside Tour 2022’ will feature “new music, a stack of timeless classics and his long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens”, according to a press release.

The tour, which will mark Idol’s first UK dates since 2018, includes six arena shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Cardiff and Leeds.

“I can’t wait to get back on the road in the UK again,” Idol said in a statement. “And enjoy that exhilaration and energy that only comes from playing in front of a live British audience.”

The Go-Go’s will serve as the main support act on all six dates, with the band saying of their booking:

“We are thrilled to be sharing the stage with Billy Idol on his 2022 summer UK tour dates.

“We haven’t had an opportunity to play for our British fans in 26 years and can’t wait to see you all.”

Idol recently released his latest EP ‘The Roadside’. Speaking about the record, Idol reflected on his near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1990, how he dealt with it and how it relates to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident,” he said about the EP. “I may have been saying, ‘Well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble’. I think I was unconsciously making that connection.

“Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end.”

Gorillaz Announce 2022 Australian Tour

4th October 2021 | Category: Concerts

Gorillaz have announced a handful of Australian shows for next year, marking their first gigs in the country in more than a decade.

The virtual band’s two headline shows sit alongside their previously announced slot at the festival Splendour In The Grass, taking place in Byron Bay, New South Wales in July 2022. Tyler, The Creator, and The Strokes have also been confirmed as co-headliners.

The Australian tour follows the release of their latest album, Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez, which includes collaborations with Elton John, Robert Smith, St. Vincent, Peter Hook, Beck, and more artists.

The band followed it up with a three-track EP last month, Meanwhile, which celebrates Notting Hill Carnival. Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn had previously discussed working on “carnival-themed” music.

“We’re really going back to the spirit of the first record [their self-titled 2001 album],” he told NME in June.

“It’s really exciting and we’ve been really enjoying it. It’s a nice kind of counter-balance to ‘The Nearer The Fountain…’, really. I’ve definitely needed a dose of something else after I finished that record. Steel pan drums and Casio MT-40s were always going to be a good cure.”

Here are Gorillaz’s 2022 Australian tour dates:

Fri 22 July – Splendour in the Grass, Byron Bay

Sun 24 July – John Cain Arena, Melbourne

Tue 26 July – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney

Recently, Damon Albarn has revealed that he has collaborated with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny for a forthcoming Gorillaz project.

As reported by Remezcla, Albarn told Warp in an interview that he and Bad Bunny – real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – linked up while the two were both in Jamaica.

“What I love about Gorillaz is that I can bring [in] anyone I want, you know?” he said. “I was in Jamaica recently and recorded a Gorillaz song with Bad Bunny, that’s something exciting for next year.”

Albarn also revealed that the collaboration will serve as the lead single to Gorillaz’ forthcoming project, which he says is inspired by Latin America.

The tour is in support of his fourth studio album, Wonder, which arrived last December. His hits include chart-toppers such as “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” “Señorita” and “Stitches.”

In August, the singer dropped the LP single’s video for the Tainy-assisted “Summer of Love” and the pair performed the song at the VMAs earlier this month.
