27th November 2020 | Category: Concerts

World-renowned DJ and producer, deadmau5 has announced a brief run of drive-in shows for New Year’s Eve and 2021.

The electronic music superstar is kicking things off in San Bernardino, California for shows on December 31st, January 1st, and January 2nd, performing the first two as deadmau5 and the final one as his dark techno alias TESTPILOT. He’ll then head to San Diego for two shows on January 7th and 8th. From there, deadmau5 has a few more shows sprinkled between March and June from Colorado to London to Ireland.

Here’s deadmau5’s announcement:

hey horde! NYE plans?! tickets for our SoCal winter drive-in shows are now available for pre-sale! check http://deadmau5.com/shows and if you’re too late, general on-sale kicks in at noon tomorrow!

There’s still not a lot of details on the shows at the moment as deadmau5 dropped the flyers and pre-sale info, but no additional artists as support.

The press release said:

“For these drive-in shows, deadmau5 will offer his fans a unique show as an entirely contactless outdoor experience.”

The concert series is in support of the DJ’s new single “Bridged By A Lightwave” single along with his other recent track “Pomegranate,” which features The Neptunes. Upon its debut, “Lightwave” was praised by Billboard as “propulsive, emotional & legitimately excellent.” Meanwhile, “Pomegranate” was hailed by Rolling Stone as a track that “boasts a steady funk bounce that anchors an array of bright synth” while “threading the needle between disco, R&B and festival-ready electro-pop.” That track also served as deadmau5’s first-ever song to be released in Dolby Atmos, giving hardcore fans of the DJ and audiophiles in general a reinvigorated listening experience amongst an “extended sonic landscape.”

Head here to grab your tickets while they’re still available.

Guns N’ Roses First International Act to Announce Stadium Tour Post-Lockdown

26th November 2020 | Category: Concerts

Guns N’ Roses have announced an Australia and New Zealand tour scheduled for November 2021. This is the first international stadium tour announcement since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though it is not yet known when exactly Australia will re-open its international borders, local concert promoters are feeling confident with the country’s path out of the coronavirus pandemic. But the announcement has raised eyebrows given The Morrison government has said it hopes to welcome international visitors by late 2021. However, that timeline depends on the distribution of an effective COVID-19 vaccine.

“We’re not doing this lightly,” tour promoter Paul Dainty said. “There was a lot of consideration before we pulled the trigger. I’ve been doing this a long time. We wouldn’t be proceeding if we weren’t 100 per cent confident. There’s a lot of good news around with the vaccine and the like and we wanted to be optimistic and on the front foot.”

“It’s great for the fans, great for the stadiums, great for Australia,” he said. “[Lots of] companies feed off this industry. I think there’ll be a lot of excitement. Stadium rock is back.”

The upcoming, eight-stop Guns N’ Roses tour will hit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth, as well as Wellington and Dunedin, between Saturday, November 6, 2021 and Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

The internationally renowned rock band last performed in Australia in 2017 with their “Not In This Lifetime” tour. This marked the first tour that saw founding members Axel Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan all take the stage together in over a decade. Each show drew crowds of 50,000 to 70,000 people, with the Melbourne performance making headlines after the rockers greeted the crowd as if they were in Sydney. Following the tour, the band left fans hanging with Slash tweeting that the band would be back Down Under soon.

Tickets for the 2021 tour can be found here.

Sinead O’Connor Cancels Shows to Seek Trauma and Addiction Treatment

17th November 2020 | Category: Concerts

After opening up about her mental health battle, Sinead O’Connor has postponed her 2021 tour in order to enter a year-long treatment program for trauma and addiction.

“The Nothing Compares 2 U” singer, 53, took to Twitter to share that 2020 had been the culmination of six years of suffering, and that now she is ready to get help.

“Message for folks who have tickets for next year’s shows: Those shows are being postponed until 2022 so that I may go into a one-year trauma and addiction treatment programme because I had a very traumatic six years and this year was the end of it but now recovery starts,” she wrote.

In a series of follow-up tweets, O’Connor explained that she “grew up with a lot of trauma and abuse” from which she has never fully healed, but was hopeful the treatment program would allow her to address her historic difficulties.

In her posts, O’Connor said she had this year become addicted to “a drug other than weed” (which she had been addicted to for 34 years) after the death of “someone beloved”.

She also said she experienced trauma due to the illness of one of her children.

O’Connor apologized for postponing the shows, adding that she now has to face living through the illness of one of her children, who has since recovered.

“The child is thriving now thank God,” she wrote, “but the mum needs TLC.”

The singer added that even though the music industry can be “a very unforgiving place for artists who need to postpone due to emotional or mental health issues,” by going to rehab now, she would face a brighter future as a performer.

“If taking this step means my career is over then so be it,” O’Connor wrote, then cited the American poet Mary Oliver: “I must save the only life I can.”

The iconic singer has also said that she is still planning to publish a memoir in 2021.

Lewis Capaldi to return to Scarborough Open Air Theatre in July 2021

10th November 2020 | Category: Concerts

Lewis Capaldi has announced his return to Scarborough Open Air Theatre next summer.

The chart-topping and BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter played two shows at the UK’s largest open-air arena in 2019 – with both dates selling out in record time.

Lewis Capaldi, widely regarded as one of the most successful and critically-acclaimed artists of his generation, will be once again performing at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Sunday, July 25.

“Buzzing to be back playing in Yorkshire again. Scarborough 2019 was absolutely class so I can’t wait to return next summer,” said Capaldi.

“It’s a great venue, the crowds there are always unreal and so here’s to another unforgettable night.”

Meanwhile, Scarborough Open Air Theatre programmer Peter Taylor said:

“Lewis Capaldi is quite simply a music phenomenon – a brilliant live performer, a great guy and someone we are beyond delighted to see return.

Last two years have been quite busy for the award-winning artist, as he was topping the charts around the world and selling out massive arena tours.

He was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2019 BRITS before his breakthrough single “Someone You Loved” topped the UK Singles Chart for seven weeks.

“Someone You Loved” has become a global hit – landing at number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was nominated for a Grammy Awards for ‘Song of the Year’ and is today the longest-running top 10 UK single of all time by a British artist.

Lewis’ debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent – which includes the hits as Before You Go, Grace, Hollywood and Bruises – was not only the top-selling album of 2019, but is now on track to be the biggest album in the UK for a second year running. It has yet to exit the UK Top 10 more than 18 months after its release.

On Friday (November 6), his debut LP landed at Number Nine on the UK’s official album chart, recording a 77th consecutive week in the Top 10.

The album has passed the previous record of 76 consecutive weeks for a solo artist set by Ed Sheeran‘s 2017 album ‘÷’.
