Duran Duran Reveal Headline Show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre

9th November 2020 | Category: Concerts

British music icons Duran Duran will delight fans next summer with a momentous outdoor show on the stunning Yorkshire coast.

Duran Duran have sold over 100 million records worldwide, scored 18 American hit singles and 21 UK Top 20 tunes, cementing them as one of the most successful and influential bands of all time.

Next summer, the band will bring their epic live show to Scarborough Open Air Theatre – the UK’s biggest purpose-built open-air concert arena – on Wednesday July 7, 2021.

Currently celebrating 40 years together, the band consisting of singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor, will continue to play to huge concert audiences around the world.

Consistently fusing art, technology, fashion and a signature sense of style with their unique and infectious brand of music, the band has proven themselves timeless, always innovating and reinventing, to remain ahead of the curve.

Their latest album – 2015’s Paper Gods – was Duran Duran’s highest-charting release in 22 years and was hailed by critics and fans alike as their best body of work in more than two decades. Produced by Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers, alongside Mr Hudson and Josh Blair, the record featured collaborations with Janelle Monáe, John Frusciante, Kiesza and Jonas Bjerre (of Mew.)

A global, three-year, sold-out arena tour followed where the band brilliantly combined such classics as Girls on Film, The Wild Boys, Ordinary World, The Reflex, Come Undone, (Reach Up For The) Sunrise and Rio with stunning new songs from Paper Gods.

The two-time Grammy, BRIT Award and Ivor Novello winners are currently working on their 15th studio album. It is due for release in 2021 when the band will continue their 40th anniversary celebrations with a number of major live shows and events – including headlining both the Isle of White Festival and Lytham Festival.

Their Scarborough Open Air Theatre show is presented by Cuffe and Taylor. Promoter Peter Taylor said: “Duran Duran are global superstars and we are so excited to be bringing them here to Scarborough next summer.

Their live shows are simply epic and fans have been asking us for some time now to bring them here to the Yorkshire coast. It is another massive headline show for Scarborough OAT 2021!”

Blondie and Garbage Team Up For 2021 UK Arena Tour

29th October 2020 | Category: Concerts

Blondie, the pop-rock icons, have announced a 10 date UK tour to begin in November 2021. This will be their first UK tour in 4 years. The frontwoman/songwriter Debbie Harry, guitarist Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burke, are eager to get back on the road, along with long-standing bandmates bassist Leigh Foxx, guitarist Tommy Kessler and keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen.

Joining Blondie for this run is Garbage, led by Shirley Manson, who was invited to induct Blondie into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Garbage have themselves sold more than 17 million albums and many of their own singles are now considered alt-rock classics. The two bands have toured together before on their highly successful and critically acclaimed “Rage and Rapture” tour of North America in 2017.

Next year the bands will be performing in Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Hull, Nottingham, Brighton, Cardiff, London, Glasgow and Leeds.

Speaking about their tour, lead singer Debbie Harry said,

“Next year’s UK tour is more meaningful to me perhaps than the very first time Blondie played there in the mid ’70s. The UK has always been a special place to us, and being able to come back to perform there after sitting out most of 2020 is very exciting.”

She went on to say, “Blondie toured with Garbage during 2017 and we look forward to doing it again. We had a wild ride! All tours are rarely the same, however, I really hope the new Blondie/Garbage concert events are even better.

“I have always been a fan of Garbage (and of Shirley Manson dating back to her days in Goodbye Mr Makenzie). Along with Butch, Steve, Duke and Eric this band set the stage on fire. I can’t wait to play these shows with them!”

Yungblud Announces ‘Life On Mars’ 2021 UK Tour

23rd October 2020 | Category: Concerts

Yungblud has announced details of his biggest UK tour to date titled ‘Life On Mars’. It will take place next autumn in support of the singer’s new album ‘Weird!’, which is due out in December.

“I’m so excited to get back on the road, it’s been too long now!” Yungblud said of the tour dates, which feature a massive London gig at Alexandra Palace and a hometown show at the Doncaster Dome.

“These shows are going to be double the energy, double the emotion, double the passion. These are biggest rooms I’ve ever played so be expecting a spectacle. I’ve have had a year trapped in a room and my ADHD needs to have some gasoline put on it and set me on fire…let’s get it!”

Earlier this week, Yungblud also announced an ‘intimate as fuck’ UK acoustic tour, which will take place across March and April, before the huge new run of autumn dates.

The musician said that he’ll be playing the album in full when he hits tiny rooms in Kingston, Southampton, Brighton, Sheffield, Leeds, Dundee and Coventry – though the songs will instead be “stripped back as fuck”.

The news came after the singer announced his new album ‘Weird!’ would be pushed back from its original November 13 release date to December 4, due to coronavirus-related delays.

“I needed to get this album to you because you fucking deserve it,” he said in a statement. “This has been the weirdest fucking year imaginable. And this is a conversation between us, and it needed to come imminently because fuck waiting until March next year. That”s not happening.

“I wanted to push it back to December 4 because I’ve been assured by then that [the] physical albums you’ve bought…that you’ve put your time and your faith in will be shipped on time as if there would be no pandemic going on.”

David Byrne’s ‘American Utopia’ to Return to Broadway in September 2021

19th October 2020 | Category: Theater

David Byrne‘s American Utopia live show is set to return to Broadway in New York City next September.

Byrne’s stage show/“rock spectacle” is a live adaptation of the artist’s 2018 solo album ‘American Utopia’ along with hits from his time as Talking Heads frontman and throughout his solo career.

The acclaimed show was previously set to return to New York last month, but those plans were scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic. Broadway shows are currently expected to be suspended until May 2021 due to the pandemic. The latest announcement said that the show intends to return to the Broadway stage on September 17, 2021.

Details of a venue have yet to be confirmed, with the show’s original theatre, the Hudson Theatre, already booked.

Earlier this year, Spike Lee directed and produced American Utopia, a concert film based on a screenplay by David Byrne. The film is a live recording of a Broadway performance of American Utopia’s run at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre. Byrne is joined onstage by 11 musicians, singers and dancers, “inviting audiences into a joyous dreamworld where human connection, self-evolution and social justice are paramount.”

It had its world premiere at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2020. The movie also premiered on HBO on October 17.

Byrne said he contacted Lee about directing the film before it was even on Broadway, when it was being workshopped in Boston.

Meanwhile, Lee said in a statement: “It is my honor and privilege that my art brother, Mr. David Byrne, asked me to join him in concert, to invite me into his magnificent world of American Utopia.”

“Spike and I have crossed paths many times over the years,” Byrne added. “Obviously I’m a huge fan, and now finally here was an opportunity for us to work together. I am absolutely thrilled with the result.”
