Björk Reschedules LiveStreamed Orkestral Shows Due to New Coronavirus Restrictions

11th August 2020 | Category: Concerts

Björk has recently announced a series of performances at Harpa Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland on August 9, 15, and 23. Iceland has reopened from the coronavirus pandemic, so people can attend in person, however, the shows will stream live, too for those who can’t show up.

The shows have now been postponed, due to coronavirus restrictions. The first of four dates is now set for Saturday, August 29, with three to follow on Sunday, September 13; Saturday, September 19; and Monday, September 28. Here’s a message about the postponement:

“Following on from last week’s announcement that the Icelandic government has re-imposed tougher restrictions on gatherings due to COVID-19, the decision has been made to move the first three dates of the Björk Orkestral concert series.”

Bjork has said the performances are to honor “folks who got hit hardest in the coronavirus and the black lives matter movement” and “how many icelandic musicians i have worked with through the years.” She’ll be joined by Icelandic musicians at each, and each will focus on different albums from throughout her career. Proceeds will go to Kvennaathvarfið, a charity in Iceland that supports women and immigrants of all origins.

The musician has also said this about the shows:

“we are going to celebrate that we are all healthily exiting quarantine together by playing concerts in harpa music hall for 3 weekends of august

i feel we are going through extraordinary times

horrifying but also an opportunity to truly change

it is demanded of us that we finally confront all racism

that we learn that lives are more important that profit

and look inside us and finecomb out all our hidden prejudices and privileges

let´s all humbly learn together

transform

humongous love

Björk”

Karnivool Postpone Their ‘Sound Awake’ Anniversary Tour to 2021

10th August 2020 | Category: Concerts

Karnivool have first pushed back the shows slated for April this year to September 2020 due to the COVID-19. And now, the band will be celebrating a decade of their second studio album Sound Awake a little bit later, with the anniversary tour now scheduled to take place in March 2021.

The prog-rockers have also added three new dates, one each in Kingscliff, Newcastle and Wollongong.

“Events in Victoria (much love to everyone there!) and an abundance of caution in other parts of the country mean it would be very difficult for the tour to cross some state borders and now does not feel like the best time to gather together in celebration,” said the band in a statement. “And – let’s face it – it’s going to get sweaty and the singalong will be huge – we want everyone to feel good about that!

“We are not willing to compromise the show planned and this tour is not one that can be done in parts, so we are moving the dates to March 2021. This may seem like aeons away but it’s the best way we can assure everyone that it will happen then safely.”

“Please hold onto all the ’11th Anniversary’ jokes,” they add, “cause we have already made them.”

Fans in Western Australia should also keep their eyes peeled for an impending announcement, the band promising “a different treat lined up”.

Released in June 2009, Sound Awake debuted at number two on the ARIA Album Charts on 15 June 2009, behind The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D.. It was also the top independent release in Australia, debuting at number one on the AIR Charts. The album received Gold certification for sales in Australia.

Karnivool were last seen on tour before the end of 2019 for the Good Things festival.

Rina Sawayama Reschedules 2021 UK Tour

7th August 2020 | Category: Concerts

Rina Sawayama has announced the rescheduled dates for her UK headline tour.

The musician was supposed to hit the road this May, before she was forced to push back the dates to September due to the coronavirus crisis.

However, it’s now been confirmed that the tour, named The Dynasty Tour, will take place next year, in March 2021. The planned performances are in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, and London.

Sawayama wrote in a series of tweets:

“Globally the pandemic is totally unpredictable, with even the UK predicted to go back into the second lockdown again in the fall. It saddens me that I won’t see your faces until then, and it also saddens me greatly that some UK venues have been forced to close. In the meantime will be waiting patiently to see you when it’s very very safe!”

An announcement of the singer’s rescheduled US tour is expected soon.

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-British musician and model, born in Japan, but raised in the United Kingdom. She released her debut studio album, SAWAYAMA on April, 17th, 2020 and is currently signed to independent record label Dirty Hit records.

Recently Sawayama shared that she can’t enter British awards, because she is not eligible under the criteria of the current rules of these British music awards, following the announcement of this year’s Mercury Prize shortlist.

“It was so heartbreaking,” Sawayama told Vice. “I rarely get upset to the level where I cry. And I cried.

All I remember is living here,” she continued. “I’ve just lived here all my life. I went to summer school in Japan, and that’s literally it. But I feel like I’ve contributed to the UK in a way that I think is worthy of being celebrated, or at least being eligible to be celebrated.”

“I’ve lived here 25 years,” she added on Twitter, “but I am not British enough to even be eligible for the 2 biggest UK music awards”.

Shortly after the nominees were revealed, Sawayama reached out to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the organization behind the BRIT Awards and Mercury Prize, who indicated that they are reconsidering their eligibility criteria.

Dua Lipa to Feature Maddona, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson On New Remix Album

6th August 2020 | Category: Concerts

Dua Lipa has teamed up with a number of pop icons for a new remix LP featuring songs from her latest album Future Nostalgia

Lipa recently announced that a re-work of her track “Levitating” will feature Madonna, Missy Elliott and remix by Blessed Madonna. The 61-year-old popstar also confirmed the song will be released on August 14.

“Levitating is coming,’” she wrote. “Dua Lipa, Miss Elliot and Myself.”

She added ‘It’s so [fire],’ with multiple fire emojis.

Lipa also said she will be releasing a remix of her song ‘Physical’ by Mark Ronson featuring Gwen Stefani.

The full remix album, titled Club Future Nostalgia: The Remix Album, will arrive on August 21 and will feature other impressive names.

Announcing the news, the singer said:

“CLUB FUTURE NOSTALGIA THE REMIX ALBUM W THE BLESSED MADONNA COMING AUGUST 21ST – LEVITATING AUGUST 14TH – FEATURING MISSY ELLIOTT & MADONNA – PHYSICAL FT. GWEN STEFANI REMIXED BY MARK RONSON +++ ALL FUTURE NOSTALGIA TRACKS N THEN SUM REMIXED BY UR FAVES AND MANY MANY MORE SURPRISES!!! C YA SOON”

Released in March, Future Nostalgia dropped at a time when many began staying home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, the singer addressed the difficult decision she faced in releasing the album at that time.

“I guess that was kind of the thing I was maybe the most conflicted about,” she said. “It’s such an upbeat, high-tempo album that you would just want to dance to. I wasn’t sure if it was really the time to put it out — to celebrate, I guess, during a time of so much suffering.”

The album produced five singles, along with title track, which was released as a promotional single. “Don’t Start Now” the album’s lead single, attained both critical and commercial success and became her first top three entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Physical” and “Break My Heart” were released next, and both reached the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart.

To promote the album, Lipa is scheduled to embark on the Future Nostalgia Tour, beginning in January 2021.

Corey Taylor To Release First Solo Album ‘CMFT’

31st July 2020 | Category: Concerts

Corey Taylor has announced his debut solo album ‘CMFT’. The album will be released by the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman on October 2 via Roadrunner Records.

The record includes a mix of newly written tracks as well as songs that date back to his teens. It was recorded at Hideout Studio in Las Vegas with producer Jay Ruston. Christian Martucci (guitar), Zach Throne (guitar), Jason Christopher (bass), and Dustin Robert (drums) all played with Taylor on the record.

Along with the new album announcement, the Slipknot frontman has shared two new songs from it. Speaking on the new songs, Taylor said:
“One is the overall ‘crusher’ single – really great with a big vibe, and the other one is just as fun on the other end of the spectrum that people are going to hear and they are going to lose their minds!”

The first single ‘CMFT Must Be Stopped’ features Tech N9ne and Kid Bookie and comes with the music video. The second track that is available for listening is ‘Black Eyes Blue’.

In an interview with Knotfest, Taylor stated that his new solo material is “probably one of the best things I’ve ever written”.

The record is “everything I wanted it to be,” he said, adding: “There’s some Slade in there, there’s some Johnny Cash, there’s some Alice In Chains. I mean, big choruses, fun rock, just huge solos — huge solos! It’s incredible. I, actually, two years ago, started teaching myself piano just so I can record this song that I wrote for my wife, and I was able to play it and record it. And it’s really good — it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever written.”

As for how many songs will be on the album, Taylor said:

“Thirteen. We did thirteen originals. We recorded seven covers, and then we did six acoustic versions of the originals that we put together. Or [maybe] it’s five. I can never keep that straight. Maybe it’s six [covers] and six [acoustic versions] — I can’t remember.”

The album is now “finished” and it contains thirteen originals and twelve covers.
