Taylor Swift Is Billboard’s Woman of the Decade

13th December 2019 | Category: Concerts

This year has definitely been a good one for Taylor Swift, or better yet, a whole decade has been great for her.

After winning the Artist of the Year trophy at the American Music Awards last month, this country singer turned pop superstar was also named Woman of the Decade by Billboard.

On receiving that honor, in her speech Swift she brought the attention to the sexism she witnessed in the industry over the last decade and publicly called out Scooter Braun who bought her music without her say in it.

“When this decade began I was 20 years old and I had put out my self-titled debut album when I was 16, and then the album that would become my breakthrough album, which was called Fearless. And I saw that there was a world of music and experience beyond country music that I was really curious about…I saw that as a female in this industry, some people will always have slight reservations about you. Whether you deserve to be there, whether your male producer or co-writer is the reason for your success, or whether it was a savvy record label. It wasn’t,” Swift said.

She feels that “there is a potentially harmful force in our industry. And that is the unregulated world of private equity coming in and buying up our music as if it is real estate. As if it’s an app or a shoe line.

This just happened to me without my approval, consultation, or consent,” Swift addressed one of the problems in the music industry.

Swift is one of the most accomplished musical acts of all time – She has won 10 Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and is the most-awarded act at the American Music Awards and most-awarded woman at the Billboard Music Awards. Her Reputation Stadium Tour broke the record for the highest-grossing U.S. tour late last year.

In 2020, Swift will be slowing down on the busy tour life, to focus more on the family. This decision is most likely related to her mother’s cancer diagnosis, which inspired a heart-wrenching song “Soon You’ll Get Better” on her latest album Lover.

She will still embark on festival-style tour Lover Fest, scheduled to kick off in June next year.

You can purchase the tickets for it at this link here, as well as tickets for other Taylor Swift performances.
