Carrie Underwood to Make an Appearance at 2019 Glastonbury Festival

5th June 2019 | Category: Concerts

Country superstar Carrie Underwood has announced that she will be performing at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival, which will take place in Pilton, Somerset, England from June 26th until June 30th.

The singer’s Cry Pretty Tour 360 in the United Kingdom will see her making a stop at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. According to a press release about the newly added gig, Underwood will perform at the festival on June 29th, before she heads to Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and London.

Other stars that will make an appearance at the five-day festival include headliner The Killers, The Cure, Kylie Minogue and Janet Jackson, alongside George Ezra, Liam Gallagher, Miley Cyrus, Hozier and Wu-Tang Clan.

Carrie Underwoods Cry Pretty Tour 360 is now in full swing, having opened on May 1st in Greensboro, North Carolina. When the tour was first announced, it promised to put women front and center, and judging by the performances so far, it delivered that and more.

When asked about how the idea for the all-woman tour came to be, the singer responded saying that the lack of representation by women in country, music, on the country charts, and at festivals and awards show was the topic of conversation over the last several years. Underwood has decided to address the issue by having all of the artists, from headliner herself to first act Runaway June, begin their sets by rising from below the stage, a clear metaphor that says women in country music are on their way up.

So, if you are up for a dose of female empowerment and some country jammin’, you know where you can grab your tickets!

Ariana Grande is postponing two shows due to illness. The 25-year-old singer notified her fans via Instagram Story on Tuesday that two Florida dates on her Sweetener world tour will have to be rescheduled after she fell ill.

“Tampa & Orlando, I woke up incredibly sick today, ran to my doctor here and have been told to postpone these shows tonight and tomorrow. I’m so beyond devastated.” Grande wrote on her Instagram.

“I will make this up to you, I promise,” she vowed. “Please forgive me. I love you and I will be back and better than ever as soon as possible. Love you.”

The cancelled shows were scheduled for May 28th in Amalie Arena in Tampa, and for May 29th at Amway center in Orlando. But, rest assured, you do not have to miss seeing and hearing the 7 Rings singer for the Tampa and Orlando shows will now take place on November 24th and November 25th, respectively.

Grande is obviously sorry to disappoint her fans and looks forward to seeing them in November. The tickets for the shows are refundable, or they can be used for the new dates.

Ed Sheeran’s Tour Close to Breaking an All-time Record

29th May 2019 | Category: Concerts

With The Divide Tour going on for more than two years, Ed Sheeran continues his unstoppable global momentum with the highest grossing tour of April.

Thanks to his latest grosses of $31.8 million and 277,864 tickets sold for eight concerts throughout Asia (April 4th – April 28th), his tour has become second in history to gross over $600 million.

“The Shape of You” singer grossed $6.1 million at the Tokyo Dome on April 9th, and $5.6 million at Singapore’s National Stadium on April 26th. These mark the best showings of his career in Asia, outdoing his $5 million gross at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan in 2018 earlier in his tour.

When it all adds up, Sheeran has earned $50.8 million in Asia during The Divide Tour and $54.3 million on the continent across his career, dating back to a March 7th, 2015 performance at Shanghai’s Mercedes-Benz Arena. His recent outing in Asia towers over his previous ones with the $9.9 million he grossed over for shows in April 2018, and $9.2 million amassed over six shows in November 2017.

Every time he visits Asia, a new market is added to his repertoire. That was also the case with his latest trip, where he played his first show in Taiwan on April 4th, where he grossed $3.3 million at the Taoyuan City Stadium.

It was noted in December, that Sheeran would need to gross $171.4 million in 2019 in order to achieve the highest grossing of all time. He has closed that gap after 18 dates in South America, South Africa, and Asia, with just $109 million separating his The Divide Tour and U2’s 360 Tour (2009-11).

The final leg of his tour started on May 24th in Lyon, France, which will be his first show in Europe out of 35. If he manages to maintain a $3.1 million average gross per show, he will be the one to set the all-time record.

The Divide Tour is to end on August 26th which means there are only a handful of shows where you can contribute to the monumental endeavor, plus get a chance to listen to some of your favorite songs.

So hurry up and secure your tickets, before it’s too late!

David Byrne Brings American Utopia to Broadway

21st May 2019 | Category: Theater

David Byrne, the former Talking Heads frontman, announced that he will be taking his American Utopia show to Broadway.

The tickets for this show are already available right here.

Byrne’s international American Utopia tour kicked off last year in New Jersey and now, with the help from Alex Timbers and choreographer Annie-B Parson, the show will be adapted for a Broadway run later this year. The performances will take place in the 1,500-capacity Hudson Theatre for 16 weeks (October 14th to January 19th).

Byrne describes the American Utopia show as “untethered” with his band entirely mobile on the stage as he performs songs from his solo career but also tracks from when he was the Talking Heads frontman.

As to how he came up with this brilliant idea, he wrote on his website: “As I was recording the songs for my American Utopia album, it occurred to me that they would be exciting to play live – and I realized that a lot of my older material would fit right in. I imagined a live show…

I pictured a lot of drummers, a kind of drum line/samba school/second line – that would create the rhythms. I had this vision of how exciting that would be – both for me and for an audience.”

The musician also commented that he is looking forward to bringing the show before an audience who is perhaps not familiar with him, or his music.

“I thought to myself that this new context might be good – it might actually help to bring out the narrative arc a little bit more, to make it just a little more explicit,” he said.

Still, he refuses to reveal what he believes the American Utopia is about, other than saying that the title is not ironic.

Prior to the Broadway run of David Byrne’s American Utopia, the audience in Boston will have a chance to see if the show lives up to its title at 1,700-capacity Emerson Colonial Theatre from September 11th to September 28th.
