SpongeBob SquarePants Musical to Close on Broadway

10th July 2018 | Category: Theater

Producers of a very fun and imaginative musical SpongeBob SquarePants have announced that the play will close on Broadway with its final performance on 15 September 2018.

Don’t miss your chance to see this amazing show before closing and find your tickets here.

SpongeBob will have played 327 official performances and 29 previews when it takes its final Broadway bow. Producers explained that closing is happening due to “previously planned theatre renovations” but rumor has it that the main reason for the closing is financial underperformance.

According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the production cost $18.35 million but the play failed to recoup its costs. It is believed that the play will move on from Broadway because is consistently played to less than 70% of its gross potential. This does not mark the end for the musical by all means, but the Broadway run has come to an end. North American tour is planned to kick off in fall 2019 and amateur licensing rights will be available early next year.

The play is based on the animated Nickelodeon television series that has scored an enormous success since its premiere in 1999. Nickelodeon entered this project with high hopes at a time all record labels and film studies tried to adapt their catalogs for the stage pretty carefully taking in consideration Broadway’s rising grosses.

Directed by Tina Landau and based on the hit Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, SpongeBob featured a book by Kyle Jarrow and a score from a deep roster of music stars like Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants, and T.I.

While many expected a theme park-style brand extension, the show surprised the audience with its wild Dadaist comic sensibility, ingenious design and winning performances, notably from gifted 26-year-old newcomer Ethan Slater, making a terrific Broadway debut in the title role.

Critics gave really positive reviews for the show and it won 12 Tony nominations at 2018 Tony Awards, including ones for best musical and best actor. It won one prize, for David Zinn’s scenic design.

Tickets for all dates can be found here, so don’t miss your last chance to witness this spectacle.

Daniel Radcliffe Returns to Broadway

4th July 2018 | Category: Theater

Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who brought the greatest wizard boy Harry Potter to life, is suiting up and returning to Broadway this fall to star in a world premiere play “The Lifespan of a Fact”.

The play will begin performances at the Studio 54 on Broadway theatre on September 20, with an opening night on October 18. The limited engagement will run for 16 weeksso purchase your tickets in time here.

Daniel Radcliffe will return to Broadway with co-stars Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale in “The Lifespan of a Fact”, based on the critically acclaimed, bestselling 2012 book about fact, fiction and blurred lines, Lifespan will be directed by Leigh Silverman, a 2014 Tony nominee for her direction of “Violet”.

Written by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell, the play is based on the 2012 book by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal that detailed their own real-life journalistic investigation into the suicide of a Las Vegas teen Levi Presley. The book had quite a history. In 2003, D’Agata submitted the essay “What Happens There” to Harper Magazine but was pulled from the print after Fingal’s research found factual errors. After seven years of discussion and correspondence between Fingal and D’Agata, the essay was published in The Believer magazine and the two co-wrote the book The Lifespan of a Fact about the experience. The book includes in full Fingal’s red-line comments and complete correspondence between them. It was named The Best Book of the Year by the Huffington Post and a Top 10 Most Crucial Book of the Year by Slate.

Radcliffe will play Fingal, Bobby Cannavale will play D’Agata and Cherry Jones will play Fingal’s boss.In the play, Radcliffe has a small job, fact-checking articles for the best magazine in the country and his boss assigned him the biggest job so far. He found out that the majority of the article is made up by the author John D’Agata and he starts the debate on the blurred lines of what passes for truth in literary nonfiction.

Radcliffe is not a stranger to the stage so we expect an excellent performance. He starred in 2016 “Privacy” at the Public Theatre in New York, 2013 West End production of “The Cripple of Inishmaan” and 2011 “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying” on Broadway.

25th June 2018 | Category: Concerts

The New Jersey teen-pop vocal star, Charlie Puth is embarking on a nationwide tour this July for almost three months so gear up and buy your tickets on time. The summer concert trek kicks off on 11 July in Toronto and ends in West Palm Beach on 1 September.

Charlie announced his extensive tour back in December via his social media while his sophomore album wasn’t out yet but he promised his fans they will be blown-away. He released few singles last year, worked on the Voicenotes album and spent a heavy amount of 2017 touring as an opening act for Shawn Mendes and his Illuminate Tour. He also performed at the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball tour. But now, he is ready to hit the road with the biggest headlining tour of his career, the Voicenotes Tour.

His summer leg hits 32 cities across North America, including Boston, Toronto, New York, Charlotte and Chicago in July. Some performances in August will be held at fantastic amphitheaters including a17 August show in San Diego at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, as well as a14 August show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and a 15 August show at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine. All cities and tour dates can be found here.

Multi-platinum recording artist Hailee Steinfeld will be main support on all dates. This singer and actress has scored few hits but is still growing popularity and hopes the tour will help her propel her music career to the next level.

Puth posted videos on YouTube singing hit songs by other artists while he was a Berklee College of Music graduate. His YouTube popularity led to his signing a major label record deal, scoring a hit single, “Marvin Gaye,” in 2015 and releasing his love ballad-packed debut album in 2016.  Puth co-wrote and sang on Wiz Khalifa’s chart-topping “Furious 7” movie soundtrack hit “See You Again,” which resulted in a video that now has more than 3 billion views. The single really launched his career. Charlie kicked off the second era of his career this spring when he released his single “Attention,” which took its time establishing itself as another hit for Puth. It eventually became his highest-charting solo single, and he quickly followed it up with fan favorite “How Long,” which is also doing well.

BTS Tours USA as Ticket Prices Hit Roof

18th June 2018 | Category: Concerts

The Korean boy band BTS exceeded all expectations when their price tickets hit the roof due to the enormous demand.

Tickets for their Love Yourself Tour are the most expensive in the stateside secondary market for this year’s summer. Their ticket price has surpassed the norm, for both western and Korean acts, and is in a level of demand beyond of any other artist touring in 2018. VIP floor tickets are selling for over $8,000 a pair. Really a mind-blowing sum!

Tickets for all BTS dates can be found here.

They are hitting 5 U.S. cities with 14 dates including Los Angeles, Oakland, Fort Worth, Chicago and Newark as well as Hamilton, Ontario in Canada before they head to Europe. The European run will consist of seven nights in four cities London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.

According to secondary no-free ticket marketplace TickPick, the average ticket to BTS’S tour costs $478.98. Just in comparison, the second best selling tickets are for Britney Spears $352.92, Pearl Jam $318.36, Elton John $286.17, Andrea Bocelli $279.01 and The Eagles with $259.98. Tickets for some most popular artists like Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift cost under $200. It seems like the frenzy is huge for the Korean boy band.

BTS’s popularity has increased significantly in the last year, yet they are only touring in six North American cities. The limited number of shows combined with high demand leads to increased ticket prices,” explains Jack Slingland, director of client relations at TickPick, in a statement.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean band formed in 2013. They made a huge success with their first two albums 2 Cool 4 Skool and Wings and scoped various awards. Their tracks “Love Yourself: Her”, “DNA” and “Mic Drop” all entered Billboard Hot 100.

BTS had a record-breaking May 2018, becoming the first ever Korean act to top the Billboard 200 album chart with their third full album, Love Yourself: Tear, and now in June they became the hottest ticket of the summer concert season.

BTS had earned a spot in the 2018’s edition of Guinness World Records for having “the world’s most Twitter engagements for a music group”. The band had sold over seven million albums worldwide and ranked number one on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list for 2018, a list ranking South Korea’s most powerful and influential celebrities.
