Death Cab for Cutie Add 2023 Tour Dates

30th September 2022 | Category: Concerts

Death Cab for Cutie recently kicked off the North American leg of their tour in support of the new album Asphalt Meadows. Now, the band is committing to spending even more time on the road, as they announced more U.S. shows in January and February 2023, as well as the UK and European ones in March 2023.

Throughout their tour, Death Cab for Cutie will be joined by an array of special guests. Thao, Real Estate, Yo La Tengo, Momma, Chong the Nomad, and Slow Pulp will all take turns as tour companions at various stops.

The band will start off the new year with January 27th show in Louisville, Kentucky. The new stint will primarily cover the southeastern US, hitting cities including Orlando, Birmingham, Little Rock, and Dallas before wrapping up in Nashville on February 14th. Then on March 1st, the band will begin trek through Europe by playing Milan, finally wrapping up on March 29th at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Asphalt Meadows, Death Cab’s proper follow-up to 2018’s Thank You For Today, is out now, and the band have celebrated the release with performances on Colbert and Kimmel.

“I think that at the at the core of this band — and this includes people who are no longer in the band — we all care about each other’s well-being, and we’re each other’s biggest fan,” said vocalist Ben Gibbard. “I think I can say for everybody in the band that this is exactly what we always wanted to do. This is the band we always wanted to be in. The older I get, the longer we do this, the more fortunate and grateful I am for the fact that we get to do it at all, but especially at the level that we’re able to do it, and that people still care. I still love the music. You don’t always realize that that’s an incredible honor.”

Samia Unveils New Album ‘Honey’, First Single, and 2023 Tour Dates

29th September 2022 | Category: Concerts

Samia has unveiled her upcoming sophomore album, Honey, which will arrive on January 27th, 2023. She previewed the set with its first single, “Kill Her Freak Out,” and a new string of headlining tour dates in 2023.

Honey contains 11 tracks recorded in a North Carolina studio owned by Sylan Esso and was produced mainly by Caleb Wright, who worked on Samia’s 2020 debut album, The Baby. It also features additional production by Rostam and contributions from Christian Lee Hutson, Briston Maroney, Jake Luppen of Hippo Campus, and Raffaella.

“This record is about learning to see the love around you,” Samia shared in a statement.

“I was trying to imagine looking back at the end of life and what I’d have to say about it right now. This is a little bit of it. Telling stories, making amends, trying to show people I love them.”

“I wrote ‘Kill Her Freak Out’ at my loneliest and most delusional,” she explained. “I’d been quieting my true feelings for fear that someone would leave. The chorus is a reaction to constantly downplaying the emotions that felt wrong; it was cathartic to say the opposite of what I’d been saying for so long to this person I was trying to impress.” Thankfully, she added, “I didn’t want to kill anyone, obviously, I just wanted to yell.”

Before the new album arrives, Samia is set to support Wallows for back-to-back Los Angeles shows in September, followed by a lengthy European tour opening for Maggie Rogers that runs through the end of 2022. She’ll resume live performances in 2023 for a North American headlining tour in that kicks off in February.

Angel Olsen Announces 2023 US Tour Dates

23rd September 2022 | Category: Concerts

Angel Olsen has announced a new run of 2023 tour dates that starts in January.

Olsen’s 2023 tour specifically hits cities she has not yet played in support of her latest album, including New Orleans, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and more. The trek begins January 20th in Atlanta and wraps up February 11th in Durham, North Carolina, with Erin Rae providing support on all dates.

Before playing her US shows, Olsen will be on her European tour that begins in Lisbon, with Tomberlin.

Earlier this year, Olsen joined Sharon Van Etten and Julien Baker for “The Wild Hearts Tour;”. In July, she performed “Big Time” on Kimmel, and in August she performed “All the Good Times” on Fallon. More recently, she teamed up with Sturgill Simpson for a new version of “Big Time.”

Earlier this year Olsen appeared on Kyle Meredith With…, where she spoke about the time-traveling dreams that influenced her latest studio album, Big Time, as well as the Twin Peaks-meets-Twilight Zone companion short film that also tells the story of her parents’ passing and her own coming out. She also shared a bit about her recording process.

“Because the songs are minimal, I got to sing and worry about my voice a little bit more. The way things sound on tape and the way my voice is the focal point is really different. I enunciated differently, and got into holding the words out. In a lot of Americana and country music, people hold out the words and lean into it. I enjoyed singing in a different way. I wanted to do something that was really simple and minimal instrumentally, and I think that made me sing out more, or sing more delicately around certain words.”

Founding member Scott Hoying commented on the tour saying,

“The holidays have taken on a new meaning for all of us over the past couple of years. We cherish this time of year more than ever. However, we wanted to spread this message as far as possible. That’s why we decided to bridge the gap between cultures and genres in a way we never have before.”

Bikini Kill Announce Rescheduled 2023 Tour Dates

13th September 2022 | Category: Concerts

Bikini Kill have announced a run of rescheduled North American tour dates for Spring 2023.

The tour, which begins on March 30 in Nashville, makes up for performances that were canceled in June and July because one of the band members tested positive for COVID.

It will include stops in Atlanta, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, and more before wrapping in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 23rd.

The tour will feature the iconic line-up Kathleen Hanna (vocals), Kathi Wilcox (bass guitar), and Tobi Vail (drums) playing alongside guitarist Sara Landeau.

Bikini Kill initially reunited in 2019 for a series of concerts in the US and UK. A more extensive outing was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the group returned to the road earlier this year.

Prior to Spring 2023, Bikini Kill have a couple of remaining dates in the Pacific Northwest.

Early in 2020, in an interview with Pitchfork, Hanna stated that the band had no plans at the time to create new music.

“We don’t have plans to. I wouldn’t know how to write in that way anymore. Could I see doing some cover songs? Sure. Could I see that leading somewhere? Sure. I don’t know. I just saw an [old] interview with me the other day that was like, “It’ll be a cold day in hell before I ever play with Bikini Kill again.” Watch me eat those words. I’m just saying, nothing’s off the table. I might say right now that I cannot see Bikini Kill writing new material, but who the fuck knows?”
