Jennifer Lopez and Shakira to perform at Super Bowl 2020 Halftime Show
Earlier this month there were some speculations going around about Jennifer Lopez being this year’s Super Bowl halftime performer, and now it’s official – Lopez will be headlining the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show, along with her fellow pop star Shakira.
The two Latina artists announced this on their social media accounts, sharing a photo of each other, and the NFL and entertainment company Roc Nation confirmed the news, too.
Judging by the previous halftime shows, nearly 100 million Americans are expected to be tuning in to watch the performance. Past halftime performances include Prince, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Maroon 5 being the most recent one.
The Super Bowl will take place February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, which is appropriate setting for the pair, since Miami is known for its rich Latin heritage and cultural influences.
Jennifer Lopez said in a press release:
“Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl. And now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.”
Shakira, noting that her birthday will fall on the day of the show, added:
“I’m so honored to be taking on one of the world’s biggest stages in the company of a fellow female artist to represent Latinos and Latinas from the U.S. and all over the world — and to top it off, on my birthday!”
Lopez, a Grammy-award winning singer, actress and producer, has sold over 75 million records and is currently being praised for her Oscar-worthy performance in “Hustlers.”
Shakira, also a 3-time Grammy winner, has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, and has recently finished her El Dorado World Tour.
