Dallas Cowboys

When it had its inception, at the first inkling of discussion of it, forming an NFL team in Texas was met with derision and with markedly strong opposition, especially by the owner of the Redskins, George Marshall.

None of that came as a big shock to the soon to be team owner of the Dallas team, Clint Murchison, since the Redskins had essentially been the only NFL team from the area for upwards of twenty years. No big shock then that he didn’t want another one horning in on his turf.. and consequently his profits.

To assure the safe birth of their “baby”–an expansion team, the would be Dallas owners did what good entrepreneurs have always done… they bartered with Marshall, trading him something he needed. The duo bought the rights to the fight song of the Redskins and used it as leverage, suggesting that they might not permit him to play the song at his games.

Needless to say, Marshall gave in and Dallas got their NFL franchise in late January of 1960. From this, a confrontational beginning, comes, so it is said, the unholy rivalry that has always existed between the two teams–one that remains to this very day.

Dallas may have gotten a rough start, but it didn’t last long.

Their record of big sales and great playing makes them one of the most successful football teams on the field, and their amazing streak of 160 sold-out regular and post-season games beginning in 1990, and including 79 straight sellouts at their home stadium and another 81 straight sell-outs on the road makes them also a very lucrative ball team. (Pay attention to this one. SOLD OUT GAMES!! If you see the chance to get a ticket, get it while you can because you probably won’t find it later)

Add to that, that the football is just plain good and you can see why people keep coming.
One of the most successful so far as their wins go of all the teams who take the field, Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowl Championships, along with 8 conferences. They have amassed more Monday night football victories than any other team in the NFL and hold several NFL records for the most consecutive winning seasons.(twenty)

Forbes magazine, just a few months ago, states that the Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the US, second only to the UK’s Manchester United.

Currently playing their home games in Irving, Dallas is slated to move to a new home in 2009, in the nearby city of Arlington.

With all that going for them, and a great game of football, you’d have to be nuts not to grab a chance to see the Cowboys play live.

Get your tickets while you can to watch the Dallas Cowboys.
